AWARA PAAGAL DEEWANA is inspired by the English flick THE WHOLE NINE YARDS.
Om Puri is a mafia don. His will instigates enmity between his son Vikrant (Rahul Dev) and son in law, Guru Gulab Khatri (Akshay Kumar).
The will, authorizes the three inheritors Guru, Vikrant and Preeti (Preeti Jhangiani), the don's daughter to take the diamonds worth millions of rupees, kept in a U.S. bank locker. The one and only condition is three of them should personally sign the papers.
Vikrant wrongly implicates Guru Gulab in an assassination case, which forces Guru Gulab to flee the country.
Guru reaches America, where his immediate neighbour is Anmol (Aftab Shivdasani), a doctor by profession. Around this time, Vikrant announces a cash reward to anyone who reveals Guru's whereabouts.
Anmol's greedy wife Mona (Amrita Arora) and mother-in-law (Supriya) wants to get the prize money by informing Vikrant about Guru's whereabouts. They successfully force Anmol and Manilal (Paresh Rawal), the father-in-law, to fly to India for this purpose.
Yeda Anna (Sunil Shetty) and Chhota Chhatri (Johny Lever), who are contract killers pick Anmol and Manilal in India.
What happens next?
AWARA PAAGAL DEEWANA is one of the trendy thrillers. It has been ably complemented by with all sorts of jokes and slapstick that enliven the movie. It’s a polished product and excels in terms of technique. However, the script is not up to the mark.
The stunt scenes (Philip Ko, Abbas Ali Moghul) are awe-inspiring, comparable to any international flick. The film looks very rich with its stars and visuals. Anu Malik’s music is undoubtedly a plus point to the film. The cinematography (Pravin Bhatt) is really superb.
Director Vikram Bhatt and his team of writers succeed in arresting the viewer's attention in the first half of this enterprise.
As far as acting is concerned, Paresh Rawal steals the show by his outstanding performance in comedy scenes. Akshay Kumar is more than proficient, enacting his role with flair. Sunil Shetty’s performance is not so impressive as he doesn't get much scope. Aftab Shivdasani is okay. Johny Lever is okay. The three girls - Preeti Jhangiani, Amrita Arora and Aarti Chhabria - add glamour to the film.
On the whole, the film impresses in the first half, and slightly flatters in the second half. Among its other plus points is its amazing stunts. Whether copied or not, the stunts r a first for a Bollywood film and they certainly impress. Akki performs the stunts (aided by technology) with elan.
The music by Anu is of the average type and lyrics r horrible except for teh '' Jise Hasna Rona Hai'' song.
All in all: A total timepass movie. Worth a watch.
