I had been to Aurangabad over a long weekend.
The city is good for a short family trip.
I found the city comparatively cleaner than mumbai at least:)
It has good historic places worth visiting.the places are from the time of Aurangzeb. hence, the place is named as Aurangabad.
Some of the places worth seeing are as follows:
Ellora - is just 30 km from Aurangabad. The place is well known for its carved caves.
Garden - with Musical Fountain show
Paithan - is also close to Aurangabad and it is really a house of real traditional sarees called'Paithani'.the sarees are made of pure gold and silver zari. The ladies take 2 months to 2 years to hand-weave one sari.depending on the work to be done on the saree.
Bibi ka Makbara - can be called as a photo copy of the original Taj Mahal. was worth looking at it though.
Aurangzeb's kabar
*Daulatabad
Paan Chakki** - is an amazing place.it has a grindstone'chakki' that operates on the mechanism of hydro power.the grindstone is going on and on since years.with the powerful force of water.this is a classic example of intelligent engineering implemented and demonstrated by the great people lived ages ago.
Some of the good Hotels to stay in are'Hotel Atithi' - 3 star and'Hotel Ravi Kiran' - economical.
Some good restaurants are'That Baat' and'Bhoj'.they serve traditional Rajasthani food.
Overall.Aurangabad is a good place worth visiting once.
