On a recent trip to US, I bought an Asus Padfone X from Amazon.com. Since I had to use it in India, I paid $584.69 which was the price for an unlocked model.
The locked one retails for $199.99. Since I was not a member of Amazon Prime, I requested a friend to use his account and also paid by his credit card. Now in India, the phone asks for a Network Unlock Pin which I don't have, The Amazon guys pass the buck to Asus and Asus passes the buck back to Amazon. The end result is that I am stuck with a third grade product which does not even work. Not only this, since without the SIM I am using it as a cheap tablet/book reader, I have noticed that the device often hangs and is simply not up to it. I would not recommend this product even to my worst enemy. Also, I would use this opportunity to talk about Amazon. It is the most third grade monopolistic company that ever existed. They will try to appear sweet, but will just not help.
In this case even though they have cheated me by (584.69-199.99) $384.70, by sending a locked phone, when I paid for an unlocked one, when I talk to them, I am made to feel like a thief, from a third world country.
