If there is one thing that we can learn from Sanchez Vicaro, then it is that you should never give up.
She epitomises this perfectly- I have lost count of the number of matches she has clawed back from seemingly impossible positions to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. One that does stand out though is her come back against Serena Williams in the French Open from a set and 5-3 down, even with all Serena's gamesmanship,, including aiming a ball straight at Sanchez Vicario's head.
Her best results have come on clay, where she has won many a tournament, including the French Open, which was her ultimate goal. Howvever, dispite her style of play I do remember her reaching the Wimbledon final, which was quite an achievement. To put tht into perspective, can you ever see Tim Henman reaching the final of the French Open? Didn't think so.
Vicario has got married this year and presumably she will now slow down on the tennis, and concentrate more on married life.
She has been a great competitor, and her matches with Steffi Graf were a joy to watch. If nothing else, she has tought me to fight until the end and never give up until the last point is over.
