The beauty of the iPhone is that it brings the different components of your lifestyle together - easily and elegantly.
Sure other phones have features/functionality - specs enough to launch the Challenger to the moon . Does a Sony Ericsson/Nokia have a music player and ability to store songs? Sure. But you'll have to go out of your way and through some trouble to get the songs in there and manage them.
And there are other things which kinda change your life. For me, it was the ease of integration with Audiobooks. For someone who loves to read books, between the corporate world and family life, one does not get too much time and you end up reading one book a month or so. Audiobooks was an answer -'read' while you drive to work and get about an hour and half of'reading' a month. Earlier, downloading books, converting them into the right format etc was such as hassle. Now I just buy them on Audible and they just land directly and wirelessly into my phone. Now am back to about 3 books a month.:)
Then there are the podcasts - an infinite variety that you might subscribe to, on almost any subject you fancy - that automatically land into the phone every week/fortnight. It's awesome! My menu picks are some business podcasts(HBR videocasts, etc.), TED, photography podcasts, health and fitness podcasts. and I keep changing based on my interest at any point in time. Love the music sampler podcasts - let's me find music that I would like.
It's a whole bunch of such things that makes life that much richer! While all that I talked about are available for other phones if you really want them(podcasts can be individually downloaded from different sites and uploaded onto the phone), it is soo painful to do on other phones that one tends to not take the effort.
The iphone(well, most of the Apple products) just take the hassle out of it and do it for you. There are other phones that'll beat it on specs - higher mega pix camera, sometimes higher resolution, look/feel copied from the iPhone/Apple products - but it's more about how it is all brought together in an iPhone that changes pretty much the way you live.
I have used almost every make of phone there is starting with a Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Siemens. but think my brand/model surfing days are over.
Am hooked on the iPhone - and loving every moment of it.
