Apaharan..is not just about kidnapping people for the sake of the money,The movie also conveys the kidnapping of the values and ideals of a person(a la Ajay) when he/she is part of a system and when one gets tired of following 'true' ideals and it seems that reaping fruits of this ideal 'idealogy' is just in the dreams of the ideal.

SO SO ON THE STORY:

Ajay Shastri is the son of an old world ideal father who lives and dies for his own values and enforces the same on his son. Here lies the gap, what his father doesnot know or seems to ignore is that things are not the same anymore.Ajay does a part time job of a ayurvedic medicine distributor for local medical shops but without success. It is here that the first ''apaharan'' takes place in front of Ajay.

Ajay is an aspirant for getting into the police service and his name is removed from the merit list ,overwriting his name either with the reservation qota or with the bribery qota.Ajay manages to collect 5 lakhs to pay the bribe to find his place in the merit list, however its Ajay's father who gets the list and calls a press conference to expose the things happening within the system.

Ajay loses his name in the list and also the money, which prompts him to somehow get this money back,he then resorts to kidnapping business where people kidnapped are called ''parcels'' and any injury they sustain is called ''damage''.

At this time the story takes a turn and Ajay kidnaps a guy most important for the politician-cum kidnapper Tabreiz Alam Khan. What happens next needs to be watched and not read!!

PERFORMANCES:

Ajay Devgan as Ajay shastri gives a very wonderful performance. The body language he portrays before resorting to kidnapping is the one of an unsuccessful person, keeping his eyes and shoulders low ,talks with hesitation that depicts the low-confidance that he seems to have in himself. In the second half he completely changes his body language , the walk and the talk takes a U-turn to truly depict the character to the hilt.

Yashpal Sharma as Gaya Singh who runs Tabrez Alam's(Nana) business from within a jail is a treat to watch and as already pointed by most, he seems to be the tailormade person for such roles.

Mukesh Tiwari as Anwar Khan ,an honest cop trying to nail Tabrez alam is outstanding and so is Mohan Agashe as Raghuvansh Shastri who plays AJay's father with finesse.

The person who steals the show is obviously Nana Patekar as Tabrez Alam,He talks with a bihari accent and the good thing is that Nana speaks both in words and he speaks in his silence too.Other supporting cast blend well with the film except Bipasha as Megha.

IN CONCLUSION:

The film rightly depicts the condition of the youth in Bihar, and if that is to be believed, its not surprising that Biharis are found to be successful in other parts of India or world but not in Bihar.

The first half of the movie is gripping and filled with action. The melodrama in the first half is not with the words but with the deeds. The second half drags a bit with more talk and less action. It could have been a much better film in case the second half was dealt more carefully.Nevertheless first touch is the best touch and the movie is surely worth a watch!!
