Having travelled to Chennai from Bangalore for the Hindu Lit Fest, we were looking forward to dine at a great restaurant. Google search threw up this name.
I called up the restaurant and the guy's response seemed odd ( appeared to be engaged in parallel calls and not listening to my words ).
Anyways, we landed up at the restaurant. At the outset, it seemed like a swanky restaurant ( valet parking , queue of cars etc) . 2nd and 3rd floors - some ceremonies were going on.
At the first floor, the reception desk guy and another gentleman seems to be lost in their own world.
Asked me whether I have made any reservations?
I mentioned that I had called up some time ago, and wasn't briefed about reservations. His cold response was that today (26th Jan), we haven't taken any table booking.
What a paradox. When I mentioned, my family is here, he asked me to check inside. Two gentlemen in kurtas (seems like owners) ushered me out saying that I need to check with the reception.
The cold response from them left me stunned for a while.
Outside, the other men were indifferent like earlier.
It's not ABOUT THE FOOD, FOR I Haven't TASTED IT (AND PERHAPS WOULD NEVER WANT TO ), BUT THE INDIFFERENCE THAT WAS METED ME TO MY FAMILY AND I is something I shall not forgive them for.
It's ARROGANCE and AHANKARAM personified that we saw in all the four staff members that make me wonder how these inhospitable people are managing to get customers to queue up at their restaurant.
Fresh after listening to SHASHI THAROOR at THE HINDU LIT FEST about British colonialism, I wanna quote him - The opposite of love is not hate, but INDIFFERENCE.
Truly, the indifferent attitude displayed by the management at this restaurant was APPALLING!
And it had to happen on INDIA'S 75TH REPUBLIC DAY !!
