Ever since her debut in 1997 at the age of 16, Anna Kournikova’s career has been in dumps, with not a single Grand Slam title to her credit. Still she manages to hog the limelight thanks to her sex appeal. Off late she has been modeling for various products and also walking the ramp. One wonders if she is really seriously interested in tennis or is using it as a platform to propel herself as a celebrity. There is no harm in looking good and sexy and making the most of it but when it becomes an obsession that overshadows the game then it is bad for the game. She has not won a single title till today. Still she continues to be over-hyped by the media. Why doesn’t she just concentrate on her modeling or film career, as she is best suited to that profession? As a tennis player she is just mediocre and pathetic. She has been topping opinion polls as sexiest woman but she doesn’t have any major single tennis title to her credit. But what is more disgusting is that she was voted as the most famous sportsperson in the world. Before voting the voters should have considered her playing abilities rather than her looks. The tournament sponsors and the seeding committees are also over hyping her and are allowing glamorous players like Anna Kournikova to play in major tournaments just to bring in the crowds. If they want to have glamour and not good tennis then they should allow super models like Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Gisele Bundchen, etc. to play in the tournaments. So what if they can’t play tennis. Even Anna can’t. It is high time that such nonsense is stopped. No one takes her seriously as a tennis player anymore. And if other players like Maria Sharapova, Daniela Hantuchova, etc do not improve their game and only give importance to their looks and figure they all will go Anna’s way, for sure. Lastly, Anna Kournikova’s tennis career is akin to our Bollywood flicks – All style and glamour but no substance.
