This probably is the funniest movie I’ve ever seen! This movie is based on Shakespear’s play- A comedy of errors. It also is a remake of the old movie Do Duni Char starring Kishore Kumar. Gulzar, the well known lyricist of Bollywood really surprised me as a director. He’s marvelous. He also has directed Hu Tu Tu which I’ve HEARD is a very highly recommended movie.
Starcast: Sanjeev Kumar- double role of Ashok Devan Varma: double role of Bahadur Maushmi Dey: Ashok’s wife a.k.a. “didi” Dipti Naval: Tanu(Ashok’s sister-in-law) Aruna Irani: Prema(Bahadur’s wife)
Plot: A couple is shown at the beginning who have twins. They name both of them Ashok. They soon adopt another set of twins and name them Bahadur. They decide that when both set of twins grow up, the Bahadurs will serve the Ashoks. The couple is on their way to a place by ship. They have an accident, and 1 set of Ashok and Bahadur get separated from the other pair. They soon grow up in different cities. The married pair live in Mumbai and the unmarried in another. The unmarried pair then come to Mumbai, because Ashok wanted to buy an Angoor(grape) field. And that’s when the confusion starts! By the time we near the climax, the more you try to understand how it all happened, the more you get confused! A laugh riot!
Performances: I think that Sanjeev Kumar really steals the show! He is so perfect in each scene that you just can’t dislike him. His expressions and voice modulation are so…… just so good that I think he really deserves the Filmfare Award for best actor! I think the best scene of him was where he comes back to the hotel and finds Deven Varma ordering “Muli ke Parathe”(Radish Parothas)
Deven Varma is really good too and matches well with Sanjeev Kumar. His expressions are very good, especially when he looks confused. I think his best scene is when he, the married Bahadur finds the unmarried Ashok in the market smoking. Deven Varma won the filmfare awards for best Supporting Actor. He acts very good when he is shown singing “Preetam Aaa Milo” after having bhang(opium).
Dipti Naval: It’s really a treat to watch one of my old time favourite actress over here. She’s fantastic! I’m really sorry that I’m calling all the actors tremendously good, but they just are! Anyways, Dipti Naval has acted really good over here.
Moushmi: Moushmi’s good. She doesn’t have that much of a part. But she does do it nicely. You really can’t say much about her except that she IS funny.
Quotes that just made burst into peals of laughter!
“Mere pita, marne se phele, ek din zinda the.”- “My father was alive one day before he died”
“Mujhe muli ke parathoin ka sapna aya tha kya”- Did I have a dream of Radish Parothas?
“Preetam Aaa Milo ABE Preetam Aaa Milo”
“Agar ghutno ko urdu me zanoin khete hai, to Ashok ko kya khete hai?”- If knees are called zanoin in Urdu, then what is Ashok(a name) called?
Overall Impression: Overall, this movie had fantastic direction, a great starcast,a very funny picturized song,''Preetam Aaa Milo'', and is together a really brilliant movie- a MUST watch! Wonderful1!
