I strongly recommend the services of Andhra Bank. This opinion of mine is built on numerous interactions with them. I opened an account with AB in 1991 just because it was the Nationalised bank closest to my home. I also operate my parent’s account (opened in 1988) on an AB but another branch in chennai.
Guys
The staff members are very courteous, a virtue which is a rare commodity in our part of world. They do not lose patience even if we ask repeated (sometimes stupid) queries. This phenomenon is more common in private and MNC banks only.
Personalised Service
One example. I issue a cheque on 1st for 50000 the funds in my account is 30000 and I expect a credit of 250000 on 3rd. The cheque comes for clearance on 2nd and the manager obliges my request and do not bounce the cheque the 2nd, rather waits for 3rd and clears it. I cannot ask for more.
My Grandfather had 3 F.D in the bank and he passed away nominating my Grandma in one and not filing any nomination on other 2 deposits. Even then, the guy in F.D section without haggling me with legal heir and stuff enters my Grandma’s name in other 2 F.D’s also.
There are lots of such experiences for which I would be ever thankful to them.
Consistency
What surprised me the most is when the Branch Manager and other staff got transferred in due course and new people fill up the seats, they are equally friendly. The friendliness of people is not restricted to one branch but stretches out in other branches also.
ATMs
They have ATMs with debit cards and stuff and though the coverage of ATM is not like SBI or ICICI, their uptime is good. I prefer a visit to the bank on staurdays and get the money over a friendly chat with the cashier. I also get the denominations of our choice.
We should encourage PSU’s like this. The efficient working of staff combined with courteous service to customers will be deeply appreciated.
