'm a regular to several Connaught Place restaurants, but I somehow gave a miss to Amber. Probably its nearby Taste of China pulls with so much intensity that one ignores other options. This Sunday I was about to take my family on a treat and was walking towards the usual when someone quipped'No Chinese today' and we were naturally turned towards Amber. First thing that struck me was that only one table was occupied on Sunday Afternoon, whereas you have to wait for other decent options.
Three four persons in waiter's uniform were busy watching something on TV, exchanged glances to direct someone to attend us, who lazily moved a table to accommodate us 10 people. Waiters were still exchanging glances till the guy willing to bear our burden came forward. The job was exactly discharged as one big burden. Although starters and drinks were ordered in advanced with instructions to serve together. Starters came only when we were about to down last few drops of our second beer glass.'Khumb Angaron se' was soggy smelly tiny mushrooms hastily marinated in a lot of red chilly powder. PANEER TIKKA was served cold. Dal Makhani and Malai kofta were tasting exactly the same - taste of cold cream poured directly out of refrigerated tetra pack. Punjabi Kukkad masala was not allowed to fully defreeze before putting in gravy, it was ice cold inside.
Billing took ages as almost everyone got busy trying to ascertain Dollar-rate sought by a foreigner sitting at nearby table.
Avoid this place.
