Alexa is a data analysis company which provides ranking for various websites. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon. It uses various parameters like user traffic, new visitors, page views, etc. The data is sorted by region and demographics which helps marketers and businesses for advertising purposes.
The free version of the Alexa toolbar can be used by anybody after a simple registration step. It help to compare the data analytics of up to 10 different websites. It also gives a list of Top 500 websites ranked by Country or Category.
Pros - Provides visibility to a budding startup or small business. The user can install a small Alexa widget on their website for live data analytics via a small subscription fee.
Cons - The ranking provided by Alexa can be manipulated. Many spam-filled sites rank high on Alexa's rank list.
