Located approximately 100 kms from Aurangabad, which itself is a historical place, is a place worth visiting. The mystic sound of the flowing water and the caves adorned with wall paintings most of which are covered by bush and shrubs need some patience to explore...but the patience is rewarded in gold!

These are Caves that were carved out centuries ago by the buddhist. They dewelled and prayed there. The craftmanship that is displayed by the use of hammer and chissel is astonishing and the painings on the walls bring infinite charms! They depict the life of Gautam Buddha, his works and his deeds. They are all masterly crafted and preserved by the nature.

There are approximately 30 monuments including the sanctuaries and monastic residence. They all remind us of the great transcidence that history has gone through. They leave a deep impression on mind and the wandering thoughts take you to an era of peace and harmony that existed man and nature.

What to carry :If you are visiting in rainy season do carry rain sheeter. During winter its quiet cold jacket is handy. Carry swiss knife and wear tough shoes which covers your feet completely and enough water and food if you plan to explore yourself!

How to reach Ajanta By Air : Aurangabad can be reached from New Delhi and Mumbai, international airport.

By Rail : From Mumbai get down at Aurangabad. If travelling from New Delhi to Mumbai, alight at Jalgaon from where the caves can be reached in one hour.

Cave Timings : 9.00 am to 5.30 PM ( Caves closed on Monday and National holidays.)

And yeah, when you visit it via Aurangabad make it a point to visit Panchakki and Bibi ka makbara!
