I subscribed to the above plan from Airtel last year in Gurgaon, Haryana. My phone number was 124-4241450. Under the plan, I get the first 3 GB data download free and then get charged 0.20 rupees for every subsequent MB.


I moved out of Gurgaon on the 23rd of March 2011 to Chennai, since I got a job here. I called up their customer care number 121 on the 22nd of March 2011 and spoke to Mr.Suresh and requested him to terminate my account. He informed me that there was some amount due on my account for March 2011 and that the account cannot be closed until the payment was made by me. I requested him to e-mail me a copy of the itemised bill to enable me to scrutinize it before paying. I gave him my gmail address, (which Airtel anyway had at the time of my subscription) and he promised to scan the bill soon.


In the meantime, I got 2 calls from their collections team on my Gurgaon mobile number 98730 56450, requesting for payment. I again reiterated to them that I am awaiting for a copy of my bill to make


the payment and gave them my e-mail id again. I discontinued my Gurgaon number in Chennai since I was on roaming and took out a new mobile connection. Last week, I got calls from at least 5 different friends and relatives stating that they have been getting multiple calls from Airtel representatives (+91-11-47057797) enquiring about my whereabouts and stating that I have unpaid dues of Rs.8, 300. AIRTEL HAS APPARENTLY DUG INTO MY CALL RECORDS CRIMINALLY WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND OBTAINED THEIR NUMBERS WITH GROSS DISREGARD FOR MY PRIVACY OR THE CONSEQUENCES. This is in spite of the fact that they already had my e-mail id / mobile number and I was corresponding with them for details of the amount due.


They are claiming that I downloaded 35 GB in two and a half months when I have not downloaded any song / movie. I asked them to provide date wise details of the websites visited and the corresponding bandwidth usage, which they are refusing to. Their website conveniently has no usage statistics for the user unlike BSNL. I have been using BSNL unlimited broadband connection in Chennai where I have 8 GB of free usage and I have still not been able to exhaust this. Airtel has an obligation to prove that they have sent me accurate bills if they have data to back it.


Instead of working on my request, Airtel has resorted to arm twisting me by calling my relatives and maligning my reputation. I answered a call from their recovery team (Shikha, Sheetal and their manager Rakesh) on the 29th of May 2011 at 11.10 a.m. The number they were calling from was +91-11-47057794. I explained to them that I cannot make the payment until they provide me the details to back their tall claims. Their manager Rakesh offered to settle my dues for half of the total oustanding which I refused, because I have done nothing wrong. At this point, he started speaking rudely and began abusing me. He even threatened me that my relatives will contine to be pestered / harassed by Airtel until I pay, in spite of the fact that they have my e-mail address and phone number and I am already corresponding with them.


I have e-mailed their nodal, appellate and compliance officers to no avail. I have even e-mail Sunil Bharti Mittal but he doesn't care to respond. Please suggest what legal alternatives do I have?
