There is a trend in our country – To write a letter stating about your problems and send it to Newspaper or News agency. News agency will print that letter in their newspaper and the problem will directly appear in front of concerned person and general people.
In many cases such letters worked and the problems were dissolved. This type of activity mostly done by the poor, prosecuted and oppressed people and social activists.
The people except social activists write these types of letters against the problem of system in society who were not able to raise their voice directly to the system. This indirectly fight gave them satisfaction and justice. But the truth of letter is investigated by the news agency firstly then if it is true, it will be sent for the print.
The same type of above activity was done in the Novel of Sir Surendra Mohan Pathak. The novel “Ahirwal Case” was published in September 1997. Sir SMP used the above activity very well and advertises it in the society about it.
This novel was the 104th adventure of Sunil Kumar Chakravarty, a crime investigation reporter. Sir SMP clearly represents that how the news-agency or newspapers investigates the truthfulness of the letter before printing.
The story of this novel starts with a letter received by the editor of “Blast” a daily newspaper. Letter stating that the death of Padamvat Ahirwal in fire tragedy at his house in Northshore area, is not an accident, It’s a murder.
Padamvat Ahirwal was died in a short-circuit accident caused fire in his room. He was a childless but wealthy person. He was living with his nephews Sahil and Vinod and niece Mansi. A nurse Vandana also living with them to take care the health of Ahirwal.
A driver Avdhoot, A cook and a caretaker Bhairo Singh was also living there. Bhairo Singh was a special and faithful servant of Mr. Ahirwal. The editor of blast handover the case to Sunil Kumar Chakravarty to find out the realty and trueness of letter.
According to police during the fire accident all the people of Ahirwal house was present in ground floor hall except Padamvat Ahirwal. Suddenly a short-circuit happened and this caused fire in which Padamvat Ahirwal caught and died. Sunil started the investigation again.
He found that Padamvat Ahirwal did a strange testament in which he gave all his property and money to their nephews. But before doing the testament he sold out all the properties and closed the bank accounts. Sunil got to know that Ahirwal converted his all money into a diamonds and hide that somewhere.
Sunil talk to Sahil and Vinod about the letter but both denied the existence of such letters. Rather they put the allegation against blast that it is just a publicity stunt. Sunil got to know that after the death of Padamvat Ahirwal, Mansi was not living there. Sunil met Mansi and his boyfriend Shailendra and talked about to challenge the testament in court against their brothers.
Sunil’s investigation is now gone fast forward with the help of his assistant Arjun and his friend Ramakant and their staff. He got to know that the nurse Vandana and Vinod has love affair. He talked to Vandana who revealed a mystery, according that Sahil was suspected for the conspiracy to murder the Mr. Ahirwal like as accident.
During the investigation Bhairo Singh(The caretaker of house) was found died and more suspect found. And after some more investigation of Sunil, some more layer of mystery got cleared but one more murder happened. The story started to find out the truthfullness of the letter but there is some more murder involved and the layer of mystery got thicker and thicker.
The story of this novel is very fast with the ingredients of many incidents. Sunil never thought that this investigation takes him towards two murders back to back while it was just the investigation of letter. The way sunil decided to keep the honor of “Blast” and find out the truth behind the fire accident is marvelous. It is large novel but the several incidents managed to retain the interest in it. While there are many characters in the novel provide support in maintaining such a large plot.
Sir Surendra Mohan Pathak is an Uncrowned King of Crime-fiction genre and this novel shows this word true. The example of this statement can be seen in the climax of this novel. Sir SMP presented this story by taking the two points in center. One is the testament of Mr. Ahirwal and second one is the letter. This question will remain until the end that who sent that letter.
There is a phrase in our society – “Greediness makes human blind” and it is hundred percent true also. Pathak Sir many time presented such social issue which often leads to crime. The same is happened in “Ahirwal Case”. The node of greediness found in Niece of Mr. Ahirwal leads the crime either it was small or big.
Story of this novel started with a very classic and general way. Many of peoples send their letter stating problems with name or without to electronic media and print media in this present era also. But it is very difficult for editor to find out the truthfullness of the information.
As we all know, a typical beauty of the novel of Pathak sir is "Smart Talk". Yes, you might not miss it in this novel. "Smart Talk" will appear after each 10-15 pages between Sunil and other characters. .
It's very important to say that the novel is written in a simple plot which is ordinarily occurs. The police would solve some events and some not so secret revealed. Some people are privy to the secrets they are reluctant to come forward. Newspaper or any media is equally beneficial as harmful, but the percentage is lower noisomeness. It depends on general public how much they understand it. Every story is not correct to believe blindly.
The authenticity of the facts is necessary. Pathak Sir presented these things in this novel. While you are reading this adventure of “Sunil”, you never feel that you are reading a large novel. The story is woven like webs of spiders in which mystery not only opens step by step but also created with the revelation with the extra ingredients of Smart Talk.
I hope you'll read this novel and have fun just as much I had.
