Whenever somebody sees the cover of the books of james hadley chase they usually grab or reject the books for the wrong reasons. people who are not into serious reading might think of it as a pornographic novel and pick it up eagerly. but then he will drop it like a burning pancake coz there's nothing of that sort inside it.
at the same time those of us who are into serious reading but have never read a james hadley chase book in our lives will usually be very hesitant to buy it coz we might get hankered down by its cover. even after purchasing it I for that matter am not able to read it openly in public like buses/trains etc. I usually end up giving it a newspaper cover and then reading it to my hearts delight. so fellows do what you like. the rebellious lot of you might want to read it without any covers or the others like me but do read them. especially this particular title. according to me its one of james hadley chase's best novels.
those of you who have seen the bollywood movie ''aar ya paar'' and liked it too must read it for sure. coz this is the book that the movie was adapted from. but the characters are presented even better here. right from the protagonist , the wicked chad winters, to his rich and nagging boss and later his wife, vestal shelley and then her seemingly staid but brimming with sensuality secretary Eve Dolan. these three take you on a whirlwind tour right from the imposing palace-like house of the shelley empire to the streets of los-angeles then zipping off to the picturesque canals of venice, and at the same time cooking up an amazing tale of deceit, double-cross and then triple-cross where the stakes are so high that murder seems like a trivial matter. be sure to read this one uptil its nail biting finish.
those of you who have not seen ''aar ya paar'' be sure to watch the movie only after this book coz then it only enhances the experience as all the scenes that you visualized in the book seem to come to life in the movie. also be kind enough to notice a very small detail of coincidence. in the book the rich wife's name is Vestal Shelley i.e. her initials are VS. In the book the rich wife's name is Veena Sanghvi i.e. here also her initials are VS. coincidence or attention to detail on the director's part ? lol. anyways signing off for now.
