When Good Men are Few .... Review on A Few Good Men Movie

We live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. You want me on that wall; you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said ''thank you'' and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand at post. Either way, I don't give a damn.

Why Am I so fascinated with Courtroom drama or voice over narration? Sometimes both. Some courtroom actions do have a little bit of wit and the battle of the nerves, objections and sustained and over rules. But if you follow the plot, they aren’t just fun to watch, but they provide you with entertainment. For one thing as good as another, A few Good men has a bit of everything and whole lot of entertainment, to keep you glued to the screen , making you wonder what would happen next. If it isn’t the courtroom theory that I am obsessed about it is Demi Moore. Perhaps the gals out there may find Tom cruise in place of Moore. In either case the performances were noteworthy.

Two Fanatic Marines, Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison) and Downey (James Marshall), find themselves on trial for the death of a platoon trainee Santiago . They were directly held responsible, for an the execution of an unwritten law called CODE RED, which is a punishment in the marines for disobeying and bypassing the command of a superior office and breaking the chain of command. They plead innocent, as they were following orders. This is a typical reason why Military court system are held, because there are some orders which are to be followed which isn’t documented , hence there is no proof what so ever that such an order in question has been issued. The two marines in trial claim that the Code Red was executed on direct orders from Colonel Jessep (Jack Nicholson) and Lieutenant Kendrick (Kiefer Sutherland), which resulted in death of Santiago.

It is up to JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) to defend the marines from a probable Court Marshal. She is joined by Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) and Lieutenant Sam Weinberg (Kevin Pollak). Lt. Kaffee takes pride in being a Navy brat and playing softball, and cannot think without his bat. For another thing, he has to live up to Dad's expectations. As the story unfolds, and the investigations go on, the D-Day comes down right to the trial. Every person being called to Witness stand, the case seems to be loosing out of Lt. Kaffee's grip. The only chance he has is to throw the dice where he can risk getting court marshaled himself incase he lost. Will Lt. Kaffee take that chance? Watch and find out.

The cast Performances are exceedingly too well. Kevin Bacon as the prosecutor, Captain Jack Ross, was just as good as any of his previous performances and yet, made a lasting impression. Demi Moore has done exceedingly well and done a great deal of justice to the job of an internal affairs lawyer. Tom Cruise has taken the limelight, but then, though He is my favorite actor, I can always see stereo type mannerisms, that prevent him from getting to the much coveted Oscar. The presence of Kevin Pollack, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Keifer Sutherland are a pleasant to the screen, since they figure in my list favorite actors.

And the last but not the Least I reserve this Para for Jack Nicholson. The man is just outright deadly and killing with his acting performance. His portrayal of an arrogant Colonel living and serving the marines, proud of the fact that He provides freedom, the performance is just out of this world. Perhaps no other actor could have done well than he did. but then, coming to most of his performance , no one could match that either. The Dialogue and the punch line delivery, plus the tone of his voice, is above just above par.

And for defense counsel Kaffee... that's right... it's a court martial! Yes, Johnny! After falsely accusing a highly decorated marine officer of conspiracy and perjury, Lieutenant Kaffee will have a long and prosperous career teaching typewriter maintenance at the Rocko Club School for Women.
