I had seen this movie a cpl of times, but they aired it again on TV few days back. So my memory of the movie got refreshed and I though of putting into words my opinion of the movie. This is a Malayalam movie. The title if I try to translate would come to be “Again some household chores”. Hope that makes sense. The movie is a complete family story with lots of humour and some messages, if u are receptive enough. There is no suspense, but the story is gripping to keep u thru the whole movie. The director has done well to introduce each character and weaved them well into the story. This is an example that hit movies can be made without showing a gun, knife or skin or sleaze.
The movie in brief tells the story, set in rural kerala. Central to the story is family of a certain Thomas aka Kochuthoma ( tilakan). The family includes his wife Mary (kps lalitha), sons johny and roy( siddiq and jayaram) and a 2 daughters. Other leading characters in the movie are Bhavana(samyukta verma) who plays the heroine, aravindan her uncle played by nedumudi venu and oduvil unnikrishnan as a priest. And director has used enough characters to well narrate the story.
Kochuthoma and mary are a cpl who have seen harder times, yet they bring up all their kids well. And by now they are quite well to do. But the youngest son Roy(jayaram) never had to see tougher times. So he grows up well taken care of and spoilt. He has done his diploma in automobile engg and is jobless, nor trying to find a job. But he is active in the church choir and drama group. Also he is having ambitions to make it to films.
His partner-in-crime in his dramatic pursuits is none other than his dad. There are many scenes showing camaraderie between them. The two go together for drama and rehearsals and come home late, leaving the mother of the house worried abt them. These scenes are full of humour and add to it the actors who have done very well. Johny who is doing some business, is a critic of the duo and their pursuits of drama etc.
Our heroine bhavana is young girl who means business. Coming from a poor family she has to work to look after her mentally unstable mother. So she goes door-to-door selling various products. The first meeting between hero and heroine is funny. Roy is sitting and working on a script for a new drama. Bhavna comes with few products, he wants none of them and says “now I am looking for thoughts for the play”. Bhavana takes out a product called brain massager and claims it wakes up the sleeping grey cells and u get new thoughts. He buys it for 250, only to realize thru his sister that it was a face masaager worth 100.
Soon Roy is looking for a heroine for the drama, after a cpl of unsuccessful search he bumps into bhavna who is willing to do it, just bcos she needs money. Soon roy realizes she is talented in acting music etc. slowly he falls in love. Being a inter-religion affair he is apprehensive how the reaction will be at home he does a test. He seeks opinion of his dad as to what the young man shud do. The dad says he shud marry her and bring her home.
So roy goes for a registration marriage and brings her home. Now this is a scandal. His brother wants him out of home. His dad also makes a u turn, and bhavna also doesn’t like the public humiliation, so in the heat of the moment they decide to leave home. Now they return to bhavnas hut. Now roy begins to feel the difficulties of life, starting with the mosquitoes, and then he has only one shirt. Soon he has to look for a job. He is desperate and at times thinks if it was “marry in haste, repent in leisure for him”!!
While returning from a jobhunt he happens to see a director whose car has broken down. He asks for a chance while attending to the car using his Diploma in automobile. He gets it started. The director gives him a advice “when u have a job in hands why are u looking for something else” . soon he starts working at a illfated garage and turns it into profit. Soon he is the best mechanic in town.
To cut the story or this review short, meanwhile his family goes thru toughtimes, with johny suffering losses and marriage of lisy. His dad also sees a hospitalization. Finally with roys help marriage is over and them roy, bhavna make a triumphant entry back to their home. Roy realizes this was all a planned play by his father to make him independent and working. So he emerges successful in that test.
The movie has a cpl of good songs. Good acting by all the characters and also the earthly nature of characters is refreshing. Story is well told without any broken links. All in all a good family entertainer. for those who like family stories and comedy, a good watch
