Breezy & Mushy!!!! To the core.....Trust Me!!!!!. Review on Trust Me - Rajashree

“TRUST ME” the title of the novel was screaming, I checked out the author’s name & it didn’t ring any bell. Though the praises bestowed on the author(by our owm Chetan Bhagat) & book were good and so was the cover attractive. Plus the title brought back some old memories….this used to be my favourite phrase and whenever I used to say “Trust me” too many times it usually turned out that I shouldn’t be trusted. So all these factors made me buy this book & the reading started withZero expectations.

This is the story of Paro(Parvati), a small town(Amravati) girl, out in Mumbai to make it big in the field of at direction. She is working with an Ad agency, nursing a major heart break & an abortion. And to top it all her boss Mr. Bose makes a pass on her, the incident forces her to resign from her job. She is forced to take up the job of an Assistant Director in a B Class Hindi movie.

Saira & Kavita, Paro’s best friends and soul mates, each of them have colourful views about Men owing to their family history & their own personal experiences. While Saira looses her heart in every two weeks(to a new & wrong guy obviously), Kavita is in love with a married man and is visiting a psychiatrist to avoid the same(and her attempts to implement her limited knowledge of psychiatry on Paro’s case are hilarious). And together they have agreed upon one fact “*All men are BASTARDS”.

Anyways, Paro’s life changes once she joins the production house. Here she meets Rahul Kapoor a budding hero & the second lead of the movie. BTW did I tell you the name of the director? Well, it is “Jambuwant Sinha’ fondly known as Jumbo! LOL… Rahul takes an immediate liking to her and starts wooing her, but our heroine is so scared of guys in general that she thinks that he just doing time pass with her & trying to “pataao” her. What follows from hereon is a lovely account of bollywoodish & college style of wooing. Along the way Paro learns about casting Couch(which not only embarrasses but appall her too), the reality of film making, and the egos of big stars etc.

The rest of the story is about what happens between Paro, Rahul, the movie & her best friends.(I don’t want to delve too much in story because it’s a light reading book and full of instances which make it worth reading so no point disclosing them). So you’ll have to read the book to know how does Rahul woo her and does he win her or not….

Now why do I like this book(have already read it twice:-)

$ The books narrative is breezy & fully entertaining with loads of humor.  It has a movie kind of feel in it. You would like to finish this book in a single sitting. It keeps you glued.

$ The language….the author has used hinglish in so many places. Take this for example

‘Speeding up, I ran around a satin cloth and – Dhapack! I was on the ground….’

The language used by the author is an everyday kind of language and readers can very easily associate with it and enjoy it.

$ Rahul Kapoor woos Paro, and the way he does will surely tug your heart. It’s depicted in a very sweet manner and trust me it will remind you of your college days and your college sweetheart.

$ The way the author has in some ways depicted the movie making will make you split with laughter. The names used, the plots described are outrageous.

$ The protagonist “Paro” is like you and me. A normal middle class girl out in a new city to prove herself with common problems like heart break, increasing weight, tensions of her friends, a bad room mate, same old problematic landlords and shortage of money lurking behind her. And this is the very reason that we can relate to her & to this novel.

You’ll want to get her out of her “*All men are BASTARDS” *phase and put some thought in her brain that Rahul is the guy for her….stop measuring him and trust him….

The novel is a very light & entertaining read. It is for those who love light comedy & romantic kind of novels. Pick it up on a day when you are feeling down and it will leave you with a mushy feeling and remind you of your sweet college romance. It’s not a path breaking novel but it will keep you thoroughly entertained and happy till end.

Go for it……it’s worth its price……

For guys.think twice before picking it up.its basically what they call a chick-lit romance.
