After my previous reviews on ten favourite Punjabi Songs and ten favourite Food Items, My next review naturally had to be on Ten Favourite Hindi Films as I can’t live without Good Food, Punjabi Music and Hindi Movies.
I was watching the IIFA Awards on Star Plus last night and then I thought of writing this review. Hope you like my list.
These Films are listed on the basis of date of their release and not on the basis of my liking for them...So here it comes....My ten favorite Hindi Films of all time...
MERE APNE: This movie was released in the 70’s and is an awesome movie based on Politics of that time and also on Inter-Gang rivalry. The lead roles were played by Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha and a great supporting cast including a very Young Danny and Keshto Mukherjee. It was also the last movie of Meena Kumari who played an old woman who dies in the end. This movie had a very good storyline and excellent music and lyrics by R.D. Burman and Gulzar duo. I don’t know how many of you have watched this movie yet, if not then please watch it, you won’t be disappointed, I am damn sure. It also had the famous song “Koi hota jisko apna kehte” by the great Kishore Kumar.
AMAR PREM: This is one sad love story I really adore, with awesome performances by the First Superstar of Bollywood Rajesh Khanna and the gorgeous Sharmila Tagore, it portrayed her as a glamorous pros*itute without any vulgarity we get to watch in today’s movies. It had the regular élan and dialogue delivery of Rajesh Khanna and the Unforgettable dialogue “Pushpa, I hate tears”. It also had great music with songs like “Chingari koi bhadke” and “Kuch to log Kahenge”, actually the song “Kuch to...” is one song I really like and it defines my ideology of Eat Drink and be merry but don’t hurt others, and don’t care about what others say about you.
DEEWAR: This movie brought Amitabh Bachchan to the fore of Indian Cinema and coining of the famous term “Angry Young Man”, it is a perfect Bollywood Movie with all the necessary ingredients required, and not surprisingly it was a smash hit. It had some really awesome dialogues like “Main aaj bhi fainke hue paise nahin uthata”, “Suna hai lift ki deewaron ke kaan nahin hote”, “Doston ke naam bhi hote hain” and the evergreen one “Mere paas Maa hai”. I am sure everybody of you must have watched it.
SHOLAY: I mean any list do not having this movie is incomplete for sure, I am sure there would be no movie like Sholay ever. There was nothing missing in this movie: Star Cast, Music, Choreography, Cinematography and Dialogues. Even Ramesh Sippy must not have thought that this movie would become such a legend. Words fail me in praising this movie.
ANKUSH: I guess most of you have not seen this movie. This movie marked the debut of Nana Patekar, it is about rivalry between two gangs in Mumbai, It also portrayed the Problem of unemployment in a very in-your face kinds. It was directed by the famous director N. Chandra (of Tezaab, Narsimha fame). It also had the famous bhajan “Itni shakti hamein de na data”; please watch it on my advice. I am sure everybody of you would love it.
ANDAZ APNA APNA: This is my favourite comedy movie of all-time. I have a VCD of this movie and whenever I feel depressed or sad, I watch this movie to get back to normal again, I remember each dialogue of this movie word-by-word. Whenever I watch this movie I am rolling on my bed laughing all the time. All my college friends use the dialogues of this movie, it was directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi who have also directed classics like Khakee and Ghayal and it is the only comedy movie made by him, but surprisingly this movie was not a smash-hit.
RANGEELA: Another of Aamir Khan classics, very well made by Ramgopal Varma, and it marked the entry of the vivacious Urmila Matondkar, to go with great acting of the lead cast it also had awesome music by A.R. Rahman and superb choreography, Aamir Khan played the perfect Mumbai Tapori which nobody else can play, I still remember Shahrukh Khan miserably failed in the pathetic “Ram Jaane”.
SATYA: The only movie till date in my memory to get a 5-star rating in Times of India. When I came out of the theatre after watching this movie I could not talk for half an hour, the impact made by this movie was awesome. Manoj Bajpai was too good in this movie, and till date has been unable to give an equally good performance like Satya. It was the start of the Mumbai Underworld Trilogy Movies Satya, Company and D.
JODI NO. 1: Please forgive me, to find this movie here; it is also one of the best comedy movies made. It had very spontaneous comedy by Govinda and Sanjay Dutt. I always use the dialogue “Control Yaar”. When I was in hostel and used to feel low, this movie used to always enliven me up and made me cheerful as ever. I is also one of the few clean comedy movies made by David Dhawan.
DIL CHAHTA HAI: Last but not the least the cult movie of our time, this movie is just superb. I was in Goa when this movie was released and we were a group of 9 people who went to watch this movie and we had a ball. I have watched this movie 8 times in the theatre and umpteen times on the VCD and I never get tired watching this movie, the only part I don’t like about the movie is the time when the story of Dimple and Akshaye Khanna comes and I always forward that particular part. Apart from that I love every bit of it.
I hope you liked my list...Please do rate and comment on the review...if you feel like.
I would like to congratulate my dear friend LALLUPANJU on achieving her dream of becoming a SW. It shows with perseverance and determination you can achieve anything however tough be the circumstances. Hats off to you Sakshi.
