This is my first review on this website. I read reviews of this website and sometimes found them not much useful as too many guys are against each product like a marketing gimmick that is disclaiming others products.
Before buying Airtel DTH connection, I reviewed all similar providers and what I found best on MouthShut_Official was Videocon D2H service as best followed by TATA service and others to follow. Most complaints were regarding customer care and that they had one problem and customer care have not responded.
I have brought two connections together that is one new connection and another multi-connection so my two TVs are connected. I got one dish and two set top boxes and can watch different channels on different TVs.
So here is what happened with me:
Search for best plans:
By searching plans of each service provider, I zeroed on Videocon D2H and Airtel DTH. Videocon had plan of Rs. 293 that is diamond pack for almost all channels and second connection that is multi-connection for Rs. 150, total for both is around Rs. 450. Then, checked Airtel and it had plan with most viewed channels but not same number as Videocon for Rs. 243 with taxes and second connection for Rs. 160, total for both connections is Rs. 400.
If you buy connection from Airtel direct through customer care first connection (including installation) is for 1596 and next is for 1199. With 15960, you get Economy pack with sports pack, due to world cup best choice. In 1596 connection you get 4 months of this pack free. For second connection plan was for 1199 with one month free same pack and later rental of Rs. 160 for same pack. Videocon pack was 1099 (if I can remember exact amount) for installation with one month worth of diamond pack that with all channels.
BOOKING AND INSTALLATION:
I booked connection on 17/02/2011 after giving all information like telephone numbers and e-mail and address and paid through VRS amount of 2798 in total after some trouble, but it was done. I was given transaction number also. I was told before booking installation will take 24 to 48 hours. After paying amount was told that next day around 3 pm on 18/02/2011 engineer will call me and will fix appointment and will most likely get that installed by a day after tomorrow that is 19/02/2011.
Next day on 18/02/2011, no one called or came so after 4 pm, I called again airtel customer care. I gave my phone number to found out that they had not listed my phone number, I gave my address and they had not even that in their records, I gave e-mail and even that was not in their records and gave my credit card number to find out this was also not in their records. So, it was like I have paid them money and they have not record that who paid that money. Finally gave transaction number and they manage to find that money has been paid but cannot find who paid. So, I gave all information again and they forwarded to installation person with complaint number.
So next day that is on 19/02/2011 morning SMS came to on my cell informing me that this is my registered number and customer id and that installation will be done at 3 pm and an engineer will contact me before coming. Again, no one contacted me on 19/02/011 so again in evening called them and forwarded complaint. On 20th when I was away they called me to inform me that they are standing outside my home, but in SMS it was stated that they will call for appointment. So again told them to come on 21st.
Engineers were bang on 21/02/2011 at 10:30 am and installed it within around 1 hour. But again connection was not running. They told me to keep set top box on for 30 minutes and it will work and they left after giving phone number. Again after 3 hours, it did not work so I called engineer and he said he will inform higher guys to finish it fast. I waited again for 3 hours but of no use. So around 5 pm, I called Airtel customer care and he again took complaint and told me it will start working in short time but maximum period for complaint to resolve is 2 days that is 23rd.
But, it was up by 7 pm and we are watching it with no problem.
So important points to remembers are:
Do not expect that you have paid and it will be running in 24 to 48 hours.
Try to get contact of local engineers who are installing from dealer if they are ready to give so you can get it installed faster.
Give time of at least 3 to 4 days for full process to complete.
Dealers were offering same plan of 1596 for 1696 and were ready to reduce price to 1596 but were not giving discount of Rs. 250 that was with plan of 1596 when you book with customtakeouter care. They were saying they do not know if I will get discount of Rs. 250 or not if I will buy from dealer.
