TaRa Rum Pum.

As per the director Siddharth Anand as he quoted in one of the news channels, the name of the film is a rhyme which stands for cheering one up when chips are down in LIFE.

The greatest plus for this movie which I felt were its foot tapping, romantic & melodious music.

This is what drew me into the theatre for watching this film.

Plot

-

The film is set in New York, typical of YRF films.

The film revolves around RV. Rajveer(Saif), a wannabe racer who discovers his racing potential incidentally with the help of Harry(Javed Jaffrey), a taxi driver who goes on to bring out the racer in RV & becomes the manager of his racing team called the Speeding Saddles.

Meanwhile, RV(Saif) meets Radhika(Rani) at the same time & falls in love with her & gets married while he reaches the pinnacle point of his career by winning several nascar races. RV calls Radhika as'Shona' which means sweet/cute in bengali. Hence the song Hey Shona which is the best track of the film according to me. Its a melidious & truly heartfelt number beautifully rendered by Shaan & Sunidhi.

Saif in contrast to Rani is a carefree spender when it comes to money. Buys a posh mansion in Manhattan, buys rani expensive jewellery all through loans & installments. He believes in living for the day & knows nothing of savings & care for tomorrow.

All hell breaks loose when RV meets with an accident & goes out of racing action for a year. When he returns back he finds himselves completely out of form & sluggish just like our Indian cricketers do at times. As a result, the RV family ends up losing their house, & all the other items bought on loans.

They are forced to live in a lower class locality & RV n Radhika are left graping doing odd jobs now to earn their daily bread.

RV convinces the kids that they are doing a reality show for TV where they have to live like poor but are not allowed to be sad. Hence they ve got to be happy at all times. come what may.

Well, the rest of the film is all about how the RV & family emerges out of this trough in their life.

All said & done, the movie packs good social messages that one should think & save for tomorrow & should keep the spirits high even when things go awry in your life.

But the one thing that disappoints me is the overall script & a lack of slickness in the screenplay. The director Siddharth has definitely done much better than this in his debut movie, Salaam Namaste.

The sequence of happenings in the film look out of the place at times.

The film has too many clichésequences like father disliking daughter's choice of her man & at a later point in time, reminding her that how right he was. Dad offering daughter help & she it turn refusing it to salvage her husband's pride. Kids being made to act like hungry beggers should have been well avoided.

typical bollywood stuff I should say. an effort to manipulate audience emotions & let the tear jerks to get some work.

The racing sequences dont even come close to a real nascar race scenes. looks somewhat naive & cooked up.

Well, Saif & Rani render a mature performance in the flick which holds the film together. Saif potrays the cheerful boyish attitude of the character very well & his effort to make the family spirit high when the chips are down is a heart-felt performance from him. Rani looks good in trendy designer wears & cute with minimal make up I some scenes.

But where did they get these trendy designer wears when they are down financially!

And how is saif able to see rani from so far. in the stadium amonst the audiences!

Few logical jitters in the film!

The cinematography work looks exquisite in song & race track sequences.

The film is well packed with a social message in a commercially viable manner. A typical act of an art which YRF are well known for. Hence the movie does meet the standards which YRF have set for themselves.

The verdict is that the film is after all, a worth watch once if you are not too particular about the predictable story line.
