Feb 17, 2007 Updates:
Its not possible to forward an audio or video. You need to watch it all the way even if you wish to see only last few secs
_original review begins_
Sony Ericsson K750i is a right combination of all features that you might look for, in a mobile.More so when there's a constraint on amount of money you may like to spend. Its features are at par with Nokia N70 and you’ll be saving around 5k compared to a Nokia phone with similar features.(There’re some pros and cons as well in comparison with Nokia, explained later)
Features and Specifications:
2 MP camera, (LED light is present, No flash), with sliding cover for lens
Bluetooth, MP3 Player, Voice recorder, IR, 32MB phone memory, 64MB Memory card(upgradeable to 2GB), SMS, MMS, all standard utilities(timer, stopwatch, etc), 3 good Games(in built, additional Java Games downloadable), in phone software to edit audio, video and photos, tri band GSM, FM Radio and Synchronization utilities. 99gms in weight
The plus points:
Camera functionality is great. This model is one of the very few(probably cheapest), where cameras come with a sliding cover(This helps a lot in protecting the lens from scratches). There’s a dedicated key to take snap, to zoom in and out, and controls are very easy-to toggle between video and still photo, to choose between different shoot modes etc.
Attaching a sample image taken using this camera at the bottom of the review. If you would like to see a sample video taken using this camera check this link: https://enidhispeaks.blogspot.com/2007/01/first-video-on-this-blog_07.html
Watch call duration while call is in progress: Most of the nokia phones wont tell you call duration while call is in progress, while this phone does(many other models also have this), which means you can plan and end the call at 59 seconds and pay for one minute, instead of talking for one minute 1 second and paying for two minutes.
Dedicated music key to play/pause
Easy navigation using joystick and custom shortcuts, friendly menu supported with vibrant colours and themes
You can record a conversation while the call is in progress.
The drawbacks:
Audio: The phone has 2 speakers and the sound is OK. Serves all practical purposes, but can’t be compared with SE Walkman series or Nokia phones.
No EDGE
One single port for charger, USB port, headphone. This mean you can’t listen to FM radio or use hands free while charging or data transfer. The phone charges itself when connected to a computer using USB cable. The battery is Ok. I could manage 2-3 days at a stretch without recharging, under normal usage.(Minimal usage of camera, MP3, Bluetooth)
FM Radio
Somehow I like the FM radio of my earlier Nokia 6030 more compared to FM radio of this model. Both for clarity and user friendliness of the controls, FM radio of k750i needs some improvements.
File formats: Audio and video file formats supported are minimum. For example you can’t play .avi files.
Limited OS support: The phone isn’t much flexible if you wish to add more and more applications
The top 3 softkeys take some extra effort to press.
Nothing great about the looks. Very conventional. The phone is in market for very long time so dont expect people to turn their head and look at your phone.
Conclusion:
In less than 10K, k750i promises a good value for money. To me it appears like a right combination of camera, music, phone. No problems encountered so far(in first 15 days of use)
