Well, yes, I did notice the 2-star MS rating that this product has - and yet I decided to give it what I thought it deserves, a full 5-star rating. Why? I shall explain :-
Back in 2005, I was considering buying myself my first TV set. I was at Gwalior at the time, and had a good look around the market. I had just bought myself a Sony DV999 audio system, of which I was quite pleased - so that almost dictated my going in for another one from the Sony stable. The Sony showroom guys showed me a few of the TVs they had in stock and this one caught my eye.
The controls of the TV are (unconventionally) on top of the screen, as opposed to being mounted in front of it; and the additional AV input is placed under the really sleek flap on the front.
Technically, I found the TV adequate for most average TV viewers' needs - it's got the 2 x AV ports, and also has a COMPOSITE INPUT - which works really well with a good DVD player (I have a Philips). I use the TV with my DTH receiver and I found it more than adequate for really good TV viewing.
As far as the true "flat TV" part goes, I am yet to find a brand other than Sony who gives you that in a CRT TV. This one is really flat, and I am of the opinion that it outdoes many LCD screens of the same size as far as picture quality goes. The refresh rate of a CRT needs no mention.
So, at the end of it - I would recommend this TV (I think it's out of production now - so I'd recommend it's replacement model) to any average TV viewer, who's considering buying a LCD screen which costs much more - this is really good value for money; unless you're bent upon hanging your TV from the wall!
