The success of the Samsung Galaxy Note series has prompted many manufacturers to release similar devices, but many of them has remained largely unsuccessful due to erratic pricing. Samsung though has been the most successful of the lot and now it has added one more device into the galaxy line, the Samsung Galaxy Grand. Samsung looks to overpower its rivals with such an addition and it is a welcome addition into the clan which is bit overcrowded now. There were a lot of rumors springing up regarding this device, but nothing was substantial enough to write anything about it.
Disclaimer – This is a specs review and not the actual review, the device will be released in the Indian market in coming January.
Display/Screen – The device comes with a huge 5 inch display , a WVGA TFT LCD display at that. This may be a little disappointing but taking a lower price tag into consideration this is good enough, but nowhere close to note 2’s display standards. It has a resolution of 800 x 480 which is very disappointing but the pixel density stands at 226 ppi.
Look and feel – The device looks similar to many other galaxy devices recently released in the market. The construction materials used for building it hasn’t been officially confirmed but I can safely assure you that Samsung will go with the same materials as that of its flagship devices, the note2 and the galaxy s3.
Dimensions – The device is around 76.9 mm wide and 143.5 mm in height and has a thickness of around 9.6mm. It weighs around 160 gms , lighter than the note 2 in this regard. Overall it seems a light weight phone considering its size.
OS - It comes with Android 4.1.3 Jellybean out of the box
Processor and chipset – It runs on a 1.2 ghz Dual core processor and a Exynos 5 series chipset which promises that this device will be very good for its price bracket. A 1.2 ghz may not be much but seamless multi tasking is assured.
Memory – The phone has 1 GB of RAM with 16 GB of internal memory with a 32 GB expansion slot using a micro sd card and talks for 50 gb of cloud storage is in the pipeline.
Price – This is still in speculation but Insider claims suggest that it will be available at a 26 – 28 k price bracket and also in two variants a single sim and a dual sim.
Update today - The device has been launched at Rs 21,500 in India
Camera – This device shall sport an 8 MP rear camera with a 2 MP front camera, both capable of HD recording. Especially the rear camera is capable of 1080 p recording which seems to be a huge plus.
Battery – The device carries a 2100 mah LI-ION battery capable of holding up to 1.5 days of continuous usage.
Verdict – The device looks and performs well for its price tag and considering that it’s a part of the Galaxy Line I’m sure that it won’t disappoint you. More in this review as an when I get enough details.
Thanks and Regards,
