Rani Mukherjee?s name Rani (meaning queen) is very pertinent indeed, since, that?s what she actually is ? the queen of Bollywood and the queen of thousands of hearts. At least in today?s date I can?t think of any actress who is better than her. She is a rare combination of beauty, brain and talent. Many people don?t find her beautiful enough; since she doesn?t have that plastic doll kind of looks which Ash possesses. And Thank God for that since it works in her favour. She looks very much like a girl next door and this trait adds to her beauty, since common people can relate to her far more easily & are bowled over by her simplicity. She is intelligent enough to do only the roles of substance and doesn?t want to be a mere showpiece in the film. Even some of her guest appearances have made a deep impact on the audience?s mind. And as far as talent is concerned, just watch some of her performances, and you?ll see the talent speaking for itself.

~ Rani Mukherjee?s Biography ~

Born on March 21st 1978, Rani is the daughter of director Ram Mukherjee and cousin of Kajol. Thus, she wasn?t the first one in the family to join the film industry. It was in her blood. However, she didn?t take undue advantage of her connections and has made a name for herself through sheer hard work. Success didn?t come easy for her. She has earned it!

~ Rani Mukherjee?s Journey In Bollywood ~

Rani made her debut when she was a 12th class student through a horrendous flick called Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat. The film bombed at the box office and she also disappeared from the scene. In 1998, she made a grand entry into Bollywood again through Ghulam in which she worked opposite Aamir Khan and earned the status of ?Khandala Girl?. She won a Filmfare Award for her very next performance in Karan Johar?s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as a supporting actress. The queen had finally made her presence felt!

Rani lost her way in between, when she did all those senseless movies with Govinda and Bobby Deol. It?s not that she didn?t perform well in those films, but those types of movies just didn?t suit the class of our queen. Her faith in David Dhawan didn?t bring fruitful results for her, plus she was in the news for wrong reasons of having an affair with Govinda. Everything seemed to go against her, when her fans showed their disappointment at her lip lock with Kamal Haasan in Hey Ram. Although she was proud of working with such a great artist, yet the movie failed to make any impact whatsoever at the ticket counter.

The movies she did with Salman Khan in this while were of far better quality than those with Govinda. We could see glimpses of a really talented actress in movies like Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai with Abhishek Bachchan and Nayak with Anil Kapoor were quite unorthodox movies but yet again, they couldn?t succeed and it seemed at this stage, that her career was drowning.

But a Karan Johar flick again proved to be lucky for her and Rani was back on track with a small yet a very significant role in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. She hasn?t looked back after that and sky has been the limit for her! With Mujhse Dosti Karoge she proved to everyone that who is the real queen here by easily over shadowing Kareena Kapoor (who was supposed to be the number one actress at that time).

From then on she has been giving a hit film every year, at such a point of time, when Bollywood is just struggling for hits. In 2002, she worked in Saathiya and looked extremely sexy in that flick. Her brilliant acting in that movie was one of the main reasons for the success of that film and Vivek Oberoi should also thank her, since it was through this film that his stardom reached great heights.

She again played a similar kind of role in Chalte Chalte in 2003. The only difference was that this time the whole kingdom was complete, since the King (Khan) was their as well along with the Queen. I believe that Rani makes the best pair with Shahrukh and it didn?t come as a surprise to me at all, when this movie churned loads of money at the box office.

She stamped her authority in the year 2004, by giving two big hits Hum Tum and Veer Zara. In Hum Tum, she showed great versatility by playing a tomboy in the first half of the movie and being very feminine in the second one. Only a talented actress can go through such a transformation effortlessly (just like Kajol did in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai). Before seeing Veer Zara, I used to rate Rani as a very good actress, but after watching that flick my whole view point changed, and I started considering her as an e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t actress. At that point of time, I believed Rani has given the performance of her life in Veer Zara.

But a pleasant surprise was in store for me when Black hit the silver screen in 2005. I was completely dumbstruck by an astonishing display of acting by the Queen herself. Rani?s performance made me realize what the word acting actually means. Big B has given the best performance of his career in that movie and even then she hasn?t allowed him to over shadow her in any way, whatsoever. Now this is some solid proof, of what this actress is all about!

Her forthcoming films include The Rising, Paheli, Bajirao Mastani, Babul, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Bunty Aur Babli.
