ON@TCC

U work hard yet failure kisses u, u love a bandi dearly but she opts for a money lad, children throwing out their parents, husband ditching wife, children overruled by parents, bad boss less salary etc…etc these r some TODAY’S practical problems which u will confront in Chetan Bhagat’s ‘One Night @ The Call Centre’, however the solutions to these problems aren’t practical. YET After finally completing the book, I would certainly recommend this…simply because of Chetan Bhagat’s narration (though the book is majorly disappointing in many parts).

The story is about 6 call centre agents :- Shyam, Vroom, Priyanka, Radhika, Esha, Military Uncle and their boss Bakshi. Shyam is a loser guy who has potential in him but due to his shyness remains far from success. Vroom has a multi-passionable mast flamboyant personality. Mili Uncle is an old genx man who lives alone and is neglected by his son. Priyanka is the ex-gf of Shyam and is fed up of her mother. Esha looks like a long dry lady finger and is an aspiring model. Radhika is a pativrta patni. And finally their boss Bakshi…who is basically a big biG BIG dumbo.

The book tells bout the life of these 6 agents and talks bout how one day their life takes ALLMOST a dead end. The story is very pacy and with normal reading skills you can get over this book in 3 days. In 5.sum1, Chetan Bhagat was superb with his character sketches and so expecting, the book’s best hilarious content is in the character sketches of various characters. First 100 pages are delight to read with some great one-liners (especially those on Esha, Bakshi and Shyam’s aunties). In the book u will also find a series of chapters namely ‘My Past Dates With Priyanka’, which are a big disappointed (because of Chetan’s failure in making them romantic...I guess he needs to understand the difference b/t romance and sex).

Imagine you are in the middle of an important exam and you are in a very deplorable position and then…GOD starts SMSing you or calling you…CRAP n SENSELESS but that’s the logic applied in ON@TCC. All of the 6 agents go out for a drive and while returning back their car goes into a pit…then GOD calls them…that is where you will find the biggest disappointment. How could such IIT cum IIM graduate author think like that…may be excessive Hindi pictures or cartoon serials. Apart from disappointments, there were two pages (274 and 275) which have the potential to cry your heart out; owing to the senti-romantic scene it creates.

Also, you will love some really (SOME REALLY R) nasty comments on the species ‘GIRLS’. e.g. -

“ Only women have this special area in the brain that keeps track of everything they and their friends wore the last fifty times ”

“ The effort it sometimes takes to make women speak up is harder than interrogating terrorists ”

“ Girls like Esha hardly eat anything, but still jump around asking for treats ”

“ Girls’ handbags have enough to make a survival kit for Antarctica ”

Lastly the line which is very relevant but nobody thinks about :

The only youth power they care about is our spending power

(they refers to Americans and our refers to us Indians)

And why aren’t we thinking about; may be because Life is all crap”.

BOTTOMLINE – readable, good wittiness, senseless in some parts…and a slander on description about working in call centres.
