Memento... everything backwards. Review on Memento Movie

Have you ever started to read a book from the ending to the beginning? I know I sure haven’t; now I admit I have sneaked a peek at the ending before I actually ever got to the end.

Memento is a movie were you have to watch every minute of it, or else you wont understand the rest of the movie. It begins with the end of the movie, and takes you on a journey to the beginning of the movie.

I have to say this movie was very weird and hard to understand and keep up with. I really didn’t care for this movie, and I wouldn’t suggest anyone else to watch it. Here is what the movie is all about.

Imagine that you walked into the bathroom and seen your wife with a bag over her head and a man dressed all in black standing over her body and killing her. You shot at the guy and hit him, then all a sudden you are knocked out from behind. You awake to find that your wife had been raped and murdered. After the death, and after you got hit you then start to have a medical condition. You have lost all your short time memory, but you can remember everything up to the point of the attack. After the attack you don’t remember a thing.

You then decided you wanted to find the killer of your wife, but you can’t remember people that you talked to that day, or any evidence that you found. So you had to come up with a way of remembering. In this movie the guy finds a very simple way that he can keep track of his memories. He decided he would tattoo things onto his body, and he would also take pictures of people and places that he visited or met with. He had to keep the pictures on him at all times, or else he would forget whom a person or a place or a thing. In fact he had to keep a picture of the place he was staying at and his own car so he knew it was his.

Through out the movie, he ends up meeting new people. Freddy is the one who he thinks he can trust at first, but then he decided that Freddy might be the killer and that this girl he met Nicole is the one who is going to help him. She takes advantage of Leonard’s health condition, and she uses him for her own benefit. She knows that her conversation with him each time they talk he will end up forgetting, so she calls him all kinds of names and tells him that he is a retard and stupid and etc. He then forgets all this and thinks she is the best.

When he tattoos his body he leaves himself clues and he also writes on the back of his photos that he takes, letting him know who the person is and if he can trust them or not and other information. He is on a mission to find the killer, but with his health condition it is making things worse for him.

What I didn’t like about the movie is it kept showing one thing and then it would jump back to the past and show you how it got to that point. To me this was stupid, instead they should have showed his wife getting killed and him having his memory loses and then tries to find his wife. The movie jumps all around and that make the movie not so great.

Conclusion

All in all I have to say this wasn’t one of the best blockbuster movies out this year. I really didn’t enjoy it that much. I wont tell you who were the real killer and what all happened to this man in the movie, but if you really want to find out then rent or buy it and see for yourself. If you can handle a movie jumping all over the place then you will enjoy this one, but if you can’t then I would say don’t watch it. As for the action and suspense of the movie I do give it a better rate, but that is the only thing that was good about it.
