Originality:

Harris Jayaraj, the X keyboard player opened his career with greatest hits of all time“Minnalae” and we were happy that we have got another A.R.Rahman but as days went he himself proved it wrong. He is too rahmanish and started using his tunes and rhythms in his albums and now he remixes his own tunes in his albums and creating a very below average albums. He has become too unpredictable these days. Some of his recent albums like Ullam kaetkumae, Vetri, Arasatchi are flopped. There is no quality in his music these times. But let now he going to join with best directors like Shankar and K.S.Ravikumar let us see whether they are able to extract the best from him as Gautam. And about Kovil album after a great successful album of the year Kaaka kaaka,he has come with album for a masala flick “Kovil” directed by Hari.

1) Collegukku povom

Singer: Karthik

Remix of:”Kamban engu ponan “from Jadhimalli

For the first time the lyrics are positively written about the college going students. The song is sung by the boys who enter into the college after finishing academics in shool.I think this is to convince the critics of lyrics of the song “kalyanamthan kattikittu” in Saamy. The music in between the pallavi and saranam is very good with flute and has a village feel without much of techno sounds.

2)Silu Silu

Singer: Tipu

Sounds like:”Jothi neranjava” from 12b

It is a usual duet song with average https://lyrics. But music is good at some places the group violin interludes particularly when elevates the feel of the lyrics ”maylae maylae parandhu” and also the veena piece and the Veena interlude at the end and the beat with udukkai sound that comes in BG of the whole song.

3) Arali vedhayil

Singer: Sriram

Sounds like:”Venmathi Venmathiyae nillu” from Minnalae

The situation of the song is the boy trying to convince his lady love and propose her and ask her to come out of the fear about your family. The lyrics are good and apt for the situation. The solo violin interludes at some places are good.

4) Puyalea Puyalae

Singers: Karthik, Mahathi

Sound like: A cocktail mix of “Tho tho thoda” from ullam kaetkumae,”Verenna” from Minnalae,”Ippadiyae vittu vidu” from Arasatchi,”Ayyayo ayyao pudichirukku” from Saamy.

The worst song ever by Harris.

5) Meenu kokka

Singers: Shankar mahadevan, Srilekha parthasarathy

Remix of:”Kalyanmthan kattikituu” from Saamy even the lyrics is similar

I think no more details about the song is necessary.

6) Kadhal panna thimuru irukka

Singer: Kovaikamala, Vadivelu, Simbhu

This is the best song of the album and it is defintiely going to be hit. An excellent folk number. He has used traditional instruments like Urumimelam, Nadhaswaram, and Thavil. The song is well sung by all the three singers especially Kovai kamala who sung “Kana karuguyilae” song in Sethu has delivered the feel in her voice and best choice for the song. Simbhu and Vadivelu’s voice sounds better in this song. The best part is the Nadhaswaram playing the tune with temple bells sound and thavil at the end of the song. The lyrics are also good with Nagercoil slang. The song impressed me on first listening.

Overall views about the album

1) Same old tunes and remixed versions except track 6

2) The songs lack nativity

3) The lyrics are above average

4) Harris jayaraj disappointed all in this album
