Just read an article on Indore today on MS. Reminded me of the city , I have spent most of my childhood and teen days. Although , out of that city for quite some time now, I still have hellolof things to boast about it.
I know MS is flooded with Travel lounges nowadays. But this is not Travel revu per se. I m not gona bore u with those stats and all - situated phalana mtr. abv sea level, places to visit - dinka n stuff ; instead, I have got my own unique ways to bore u ppl! Some nostalgic breeze flowing , so cant help it....
k, so when we came in this city, my father just shifted from service to business. He was an intelligent man, and generally, such ppl don’t like to work under someone’s domain. Things worked our quite well, and soon, we became a well
to do kin of family.
I remember my childhood - it was majorly about reading comics, playing Mario and contra, and eating that stupid ’chips supari’ - now I don like it at all, thou it smells gud.
Next, at that time, (abt 10-12 years back), Indore didn’t have nething worth seeing. It had those temples - Khajrana temple, Annapurna temple, Bara Ganpati, a few more, but then I don’t think they r anyways like masterpiece - they r quite ordinary - the ’boondi ke laddus’ that u get in ’prasad’ are the best part of temples. They are yummy, ppl are afraid of ’milavat’ in name of god, and that’s the only blessing I got from those temples - unadulterated ’shudh ghee ke laddu’ !
Also, u have this beautiful area called ’Residency Area’. I don’t think anyone who got to rite on Indore will mention it in his list of site cing, simply cause its not a ’site’ thing by any means. Its just a couple of square km. area, which has lot of greenery in it. When Britishers ruled the city, they made all their residential houses here, and they maintained the area really well. Lotzs and Lots of tress all around, even now, after they have left for more than 50 years, the liveliness factor is still there - freshness worth breathing. I used to go for gud 5-10 Kms jog, and sweet out for hours in early morn - the relaxation part was the best -- sitting below a tree, nice breeze flowing, not many ppl around, clear sky, beautiful voices - combo sound of humming air and singing birds - a very pleasant feeling altogether....
As I have told u guys, there is nothing much to look out in the city @ site cing. Gals are good thou, u can watch them, lots of pretty faces were there when I left, thou I m not sure if they too got married and left the city r still awaiting my return :-). MS’s very own Pras sure can help u ppl out on that...
Also, what I have learned is that traveling is not about site cing or any such thing. Its not abt how interesting the place is, its more abt how interesting u r. If the adventurous in u is ’zinda’, then u can always find out places which r gona please u. I think, its the company of ur pals, some ’fursat ke pal’, ur sense of humor, ur receptivity towards nature, ur jolliness and those kin f things, which can turn a so called boring place into one of the best places u have ever visited... Those natural creative instincts are far better productive than those so called facts and seemingly evident actuality.
The Malwa region has got a naturally pleasing fiza , not to hot not too cold, just right. At a few occasions the temperature crosses 40 + mark when the heat is on, but the ’abo-hawa’ facto (environment) overall ,is very much acceptable.
Indore is land of ’chatoras’ - Gluttons. Its ’namkeen’ are very tasty and with a proper marketting, they can easily become a world famous product. One of my friend while his short visit to the city observed - U bloody indories don’t mind eating the most shittiest recipes of the world, provided they r served which that bloody ’sev’ (namkeen). All u gona say is - Arre Bhaeoo (Bheao = Bhaiya = Brother, desi lingo), sev aur nahi hai kya ! (Dont u have more namekeen).
And his remarks are no way exaggerated. I think, indore is one of the few places in the world, where u can set up a small ’’thela’ serving poha -jalebi (Poha is a local dish, jalebi is a sweet dish) and if the taste is apporved by the indoriens, be assured u can earn enough for generations to come. When it comes to food, Indori chatoras stand a class apart. Poha , jalebi, garadu, sabudani ke kichrhi, somose-kachori,patis,khaman, pani puri - u name it and u have it. U come here with a new product and if its passed by the ’chotori jubaan’ of indorians, don’t b surprised if u become a lakhpati in no time, a crorepati too is very much on cards - it happens only in Indore :-)
Indore is the nagree of Holkars, so there are many maharastrains here. Being a commercial city, it attracts ppl from all over the coutry - majroly from north india thou with banias, marwaris and sindhis, basically ruling business. General mentality of an indori is non service oriented and often u c the a small shop in the ground floor and its owner residing on the floor above, just because he is not comfortable with 9-5 job,, he’s gona open a shop – most of them obviously don’t fetches well, but despite that fact, I ve observed some natural reluctance of ppl for that 9-5 job. The ‘nawabipana’ is very evident in the city and sometimes they open shop as late as noon, and in no less time the shop is opened they r ready for, heheheh, u guessed it rite ’pet puja’.
Wat else, last time I came here about 4 months back, and lots of new things were happening then. A couple of multiplexes were on cards, a new Shoppoing mall has opened ’Treasure Island’, a Super Bazzar kin of concept, where u get e’thing from sabzi to wardrobe, to cosmetics, to film screeing and last but not the least, that cute tummy enlargement dishes... :).
Roads too, were on a roll. With cemented roads revolution in the city, one cant enjoy the same old crude jokes on roads , which were very a gud time pass about a couple of years back. A new cemented by-pass which is more than 20 km long, is a driving pleasure - s’thing which indorians never really dreamt of I guess..
Well, I can go on writing, it comes naturally to me, I combine everything useful and useless and things btwn, without following any fix formula, and don really bother about how the things shape out at end. But cause its not a diary, so I should also consider ur tolerance level, So.....
