Indira Gandhi international airport is the largest airport in south india. It is an architectural marvel and India's pride.
The terminal 3 used for international as well as some of the domestic carriers is a sight to behold, simply because of its sheer size and added to it there the amount architectural beauty and furnishing that is par none and the facilities available are many.
The terminal 1D used mainly by domestic carriers especially low cost, but still it is maintained at very good condition and is actually better the other so called international airport terminals. Here to the facilities are manifold.
The facilities so far mentioned pertain to the terminal. The checkin area is also spacious and a number of check in counters are present. On arrival too the things are really good. The area and facilities are really good. also the airport is well connected. to terminal 3 you can get the airport metro which takes you to New Delhi station and also has various stops along the way. Airport metro is faster and of better quality when compared to normal metro. For terminal 1D there are shuttle buses that take you to terminal 3. Both the buses and metros are available in larger frequency. Also there is airport taxi available.
The only fault ive found me as passenger is facilities when the connection flight is overnight.Because of its size and location the delhi airport acts as transit point for many domestic passengers and when transit occurs overnight, one as a passenger cannot enter the terminal and also cannot exit the airport, we have to stay in the check in area. Other facilities are ok but there is no provision to rest properly, there is not even a single reclining chair available. Not just the elderly everybody is sure to get back pain by sitting that long on a chair. For an airport that has number of reclining chairs inside the terminal, they could have provided atleast a couple just for the elderly, I was expecting a bit more from IGI.
Rest all is great and it really is a matter of pride for the country.
