Recently I have come across this site and felt like giving my views on CBZ. I have seen this bike in silver colour at Hyderabad ABIDS parking lot. It was love at first sight for me , I thought it was a foreign bike before seeing the HH badge. Stunning looks for those days flattened me and I decided to go for it. My options were less at that time (1999 august) only Yamaha YBX and suzuki samurai were in the list.
After seeing this I decided to go for it or drop purchasing any other bike. Finally I purchased on Dec27th 1999 at Anantapur. At first I was a little bit afraid because of its huge proportions. The sales person and my bro gave strength mentally. First my bike was giving a mileage of 42kmpl. I was a little bit disappointed. But when I read overdrive 1999 march edition where in it was mentioned that it is giving 50kmpl when ridden cautiously I felt happy and tried to extract max out of it and I was able to get 48kmpl. I took the bike to my work place 265kms away from my native for the first time. It gave the mileage 58kmpl with my cousin accompanying me through out the journey.
There I use to get around 45 to 52 kmpl when I travelled a distance of 15km to and fro 80% highway and20% city riding cycle.
Later I modified my bike in the year 2006. I have removed TPFC cable connecting the carb. This improved mileage directly by 10%. I also removed the extra weight of the bike by removing saree guard, front crash bumper, chain cover etc and reduced the bike weight by 7kg. This improved another 10% in mileage. Now in highways I am getting 64 kmpl and in city around 52 kmpl. TPFC is the main culprit for the low mileage of CBZ. Guys just remove it and get more mileage although you dont suffer much in pickup. My bike touches 125kmph on speedo and done just 44000kms for 11 and half years.
Its an excellent bike with many firsts in the segment in those days like, 5gears, disc brake, wide tyres, stylish sporty fairing, good shock absorbers, foot peg sub frames, stepped seat, air scoops, stylish tank, longer wheel base, TPFC, trapezoidal light, smart switches, sporty gear lever, helmet lock, grab rail, sporty silencer and heat shield, tachometer, fuel guage, handle bar end weights, carb and battery lock caseetc. Even a good second hand bike is a great choice compared to the high cost of present day bikes.
