I had to make a choice between the hero octane, hercules wow, some atlas cycles and this one. I chose this only because it fit into my budget.
However, I am happy that I chose this one. As far as the aluminium bikes go, I lifted the hero octane as well as this one and didn't find too much of a difference. I mean, its pretty comfortable to lift this cycle to my 2nd floor flat and 4th floor office. No problemo.
This bike has got a very sturdy construction. In particular I like the black handlebar and other black colored stuff. I don't like chrome since
It gets dirty very easily
It rusts in the rain.
This bike has the chrome parts painted in black. And its a cool matte finish and not a cheap glossy oil paint look. :-)
The suspension is too good. I ride this bicycle to work every day. Its a commute of about 20 Kms (one way) of paved road (includes potholes, dirt tracks and lots of up and down slopes). The gears are very useful and nifty. Quick gear changes are possible (if well adjusted). The upward slopes are handled with ease and aplomb by the bike.
Very good for city riding with bad roads :-) There are other bikes like firefox viper, etc. but they are way too expensive and not worth the price for daily city riding.
Definitely recommended.
====================UPDATE======================
I had problems with the gear mechanism on this bike. It used to give a clattering sound in 3rd and 4th gears (the ones I normally use for city riding). So I took it to the dealer and he tried lots of adjustments and finally gave up. He gave me a new Hercules WOW 18sp bike. You can read the review of that bike also. That bike is lighter than this Hero Ranger DTB.
When buying a new bike with gears, PLEASE make it a point to check the gears. I didn't do that and got into problems. But thats a one off defect. All said and done, its a good bike.
