I saw this movie on Saturday (14-06-2008) and before I even raise my sledgehammer I must have let my loose my thoughts by the title I have gifted for this review.

I am a big fan of Kamal Hassan and have seen all his movies so far. I am a bit irked by this movie however.  I am starting by appreciating Kamal’s patience of going through all that torture of makeup (almost 500 hrs I have heard on the TV!!!). Compared to that, my patience is very short indeed since I did not even have the patience of sitting through that movie.

For all this movie has done by bringing in the Hollywood style effects and other cool high tech thingies, its all been terribly wasted. Some of the disguises were hardly worth the torture of sitting through so much of makeup. Let me put my points across why I thought this movie is such a waste of time

The 10 avatars: The tall guy - Forgive my ignorance but I for one have no clue what required his presence in the movie anyways. So was the case with Vincent, one more of the avatars who dies drowning in the tsunami. As for the Fletcher role, I felt sorry for Arnold after watching this appalling Ex-CIA terminator

Story: For all the hype that the movie generated the story was woefully flat with a bio-virus being the center of all the chaos. Well I know many people might complain that if this was a Hollywood plot I would be watching it without complaints. But this concept has been exploited by Hollywood so many times that no one would even try going on that road and I am not a very big fan of hyped bromides anyways

Wasted Characters: Some really good actors have been really wasted for inane roles. E.g Nagesh, K.R. Vijaya etc. Asin again was extremely irritating. If this was part of her character I must admit she is really good. On the positive side Mallika Sherawat had a small role and thankfully she did what she does best: act less and reveal more.

Chaos and Violence: I saw people being killed left right and centre by the “terminator”. If this was an inspiration from the actual movie then they have achieved the Anu Mallik effect, killing and slaughtering the original concept

Saving Grace

I do appreciate the songs and music of the movie though. It is quite listenable. I like Himesh’s music as long as he does just that and not start singing. Again I appreciate the effort that has gone into the making of this movie. The effects are good and do justice to the huge amount of money spent on achieving them. The tsunami effect from what I heard costed 3.5 crores. I also like the effects gone into making the first part of the movie that covers the fight between Shivites and Vaishnavites. Ravi kumar, the director as usual came in dancing and I do like this moves :-). The Bush disguise was the best I liked and I like the way he got up in the last part. As usual let me conclude by saying that as a Kamal fan I am not very impressed with this movie and he has taken his audience for granted.  On a funny note Kamal could have thought about adding the disguise of the PM in his kitty!!!

I also acknowledge the thought with which Kamal went about with this movie by bringing the Butterfly Effect which is part of the Theory of Chaos to the Indian public. This part is not part of my original review and has been added after going through a couple of reviews. I would like to thank Korn bringing this in his/her review. However forgive me if I am wrong but isn't the Butterfly Effect time bound? The original theory is about the effect happening in that lifetime while this movie shows two different eras, the incident of one era affecting tsunami in 2004.  Now thats chaotic!!!

Disclaimer: This is my own thought and no way reflect the the response of the general  audience. The general response may be worse than this or better, we will have to wait for that wont we……….

Enjoy the show and let me know!!!!
