I m sharing my view of visit to chail,

First of all, I must tell you that if you are looking for fun like seeing beautiful ladies like you see on the RIDGE, shimla, then pls don’t opt for this place, you can go to chail, if you are a couple, or a group of couples looking for a peaceful stay at a hill station which will just mesmerize you with its beauty .

It is equally good for families, who are looking for peaceful getaway from their busy lives.

Accomodation:-

THE PALACE, Chail (The place where film BLACK was shot), is the place that should be your first choice, if you can afford a room for 1500+ for one night( With standard 12to12 checkin and check-out).

{Chail Palace Built in 1891, the Maharaja's palace was purchased by Himachal Tourism in 1972. Set in approximately 75 acres of land, it has a truly regal setting with spectacular views. A wide variety of cottages, suites and rooms with different tariffs can accommodate every visitor who wishes to savoir this majestic hill station.}

There is a lot of variety of rooms and cottages there, accordingly are their fares,

For 2008-09

Maharaja Suite (2 DBR) Rs.15000/-

Maharani Suite (1 DBR) Rs.8000/-

Double Bed Room Super Deluxe Rs.6000/-

Double Bed Room Deluxe Rs.5000/-

Double Bed Room Deluxe Rs.4000/-

Double Bed Room Deluxe Rs.3500/-

Double Bed Room Semi Deluxe Rs.2500/-

Rajgarh Cottege Rs.3000/-

Wood Rose Cottege (3 DBR) Rs.6000/-

Monal Cottege, 2 Double Bed Room Rs.4500/-

Log Hut Deluxe Rs.1600/-

Log Huts Regular Rs.1300/-

Double Bed Room (Himneel Block) Rs.1600/-

• Extra 10% Luxury Tax

I would advice you to book your room in advance through credit card (himachal tourist website) bcause the palace is usually fully booked when you go there. I had to face this problem.

Also the cottages and hut don’t have room service other than tea and coffee.

You must be thinking that I m advertising for them, but I must tell you that you get Value-for –money for your stay.(only one bad thing- you have to pay Rs100/- per person per day if you are only a visitor to palace widout reservation, it is later on adjusted in your room rent of you take a room there)

Other options are also there, but not as majestic as the palace,

These are,

The Jungle takiras resort (Luxary)

The Lions Hotel (little less than luxary)

Hotel moonal( Ok OK)

Hotel ceedar( good one, and economical)

Hotal woodstock (don’t kno, may b economical)

Rashi resorts( little less than luxary)

You can look on net for there tariffs, but I don’t recommend advance booking bcause you can bargain on the spot, but less bargain on phone.

Getting there,

I went from chandigarh, I had to go through Panchkula, then Pinjore(a traffic bottleneck), then kalka(again bottleneck), then you keep on driving on the shimla highway till “Kandaghat” , turn towards chail, now the road is much narrower, but kind of OK. (Note :- Please keep your fuel tank full as there is no petrol pump after kandaghat, and the steep slopes eat a lot of fuel), you drive towards sadhupul, then towards chail, in the way, there is a place where you can see the beauty of Beas river running thru mountains, and walk alongside it.

City Chail:-

It is a small city, with a very small market (100 meters may be),

Very less options for shopping, but as you kno, ladies can shop anywhere.

Food:-

There is fine dining at the Palace, but if you want something more economical then you can eat at dhabas in the market.

No mid level restaurant available.

Security:-

It is a peaceful and quiet place, but you should not go out after 9pm, as it it totally empty out there, so please Beware, especially if you are a couple.

There are a lot of monkeys out there, pls don’t feed them, also don’t keep any packet in your hand or on the dash board of car, it is equivalent to inviting trouble.

Places to see:-

Chail has a beautiful view, especially the Deodar forests, which are damn beautiful, also there are-

# Kala tibba, a kali mata tample, situated 6 kms from chail, has a GREAT view, a total 360degree view of the Himalayas, which is awesome.

# Cricket Ground, Which is the highest cricket ground in world maybe, but it is closed most of the times, but if you are a little brave then you can jump over the gate and roam around freely in the ground. Also there is a boxing ring in the ground, which is a lot of fun.

# Lover’s Hill, is a part of the Palace, beautiful place, its just like the place you see in hindi movies, ( dancing around trees, as they say).

My experience –

I went there with my love, for a 3 day 2 nights tour, I entered chail at around 2 PM, I went straight to the palace, but to my disappointment, there was no room or cottage available according to my budget. I found Hotel ceedar, there I took the room for Rs.800/- Including tax, it was a OK room which you would get for 600 in shimla, the food was no good there, especially the tea and coffee, but the service was good, I decided to book the palace’s cottage for next day, I went there for booking and booked Himneel cottage for 1760(with tax), next day, I changed my hotel, it was nicer at the Cottage, much nicer.

We visited kala tibba, which has a bad road and steep slopes, but when we reached there, oh , it was just amazing, the view was AWESOME, pujari was bolting the mandir, when he came out, he told us to go and visit ourselves, I opened the door, then there was a curtain, I opened the curtain, I got goose bumps after coming across a Murati of Maa Kaali, as I didn’t knew it was a kali mata temple, it was a great experience.

Then we visited the market, and had Maggi at sher-e-punjab dhaba.

After that , we went to the cricket ground, which was closed, but we both jumped over the gate and had a lot of fun , especially in the boxing ring, ( got little punches from her),

We then came back to our cottage, took a nap , and then in the evening, went to Lover’s Hill, what a place, we also watched sunset from there, it was an amazing experience.

We then had dinner at the palace’s restaurant, after that, we went for sleep, next day, we came back to chandigarh.
