Roberto Carlos...
the man with the deadly free kick...the man who carries the hopes of brazil...the best left back as some people would have it.
recently in a poll in brazil he was ranked to be the highest rated player.
strange !!!
In my personal opinion he is one the most hyped players in the current crop.
Agreed he has the fastest kicks but then not many go inside the goal. Infact he woul do much better to leave the job of freekicks to rivaldo when with brazil and zindane or figo when with real madrid.
Agreed that he is one of the few backs who can run amok with his runs in the oppostion half but what we forget is that his first job as a defender is to defend his own goal. He leaves glaring gaps at the back when he is out in front and we all remember the howler against norway( the spectacular bicycle kick)
Agreed he is one of the quickest on the field but then football is not just about speed or else we would have had Carl Lewis playing for US. In terms of dribbling skills he lacks the finesse.
Agreed that he represents two of the bigggest names in football, Brazil and Real Madrid. However Brazil surely as we know is in dumps and Scolari has even tried other combinatoins to get rid of his mercurial back but they seriously lack the talent what with the new crop of players coming out being no good. Real Madrid is a team full of hype and so keeping carlos in the team justifies their end very well.
Other than that Carlos is know to have a fierce temper which often puts his team in trouble with the yellow cards and red cards that come with it. He is also prone to putting his feet into his mouth with outragious comments in the press.
For me Maldini is still the best when we talk of left backs and we dont get better than him.
