I bought a Pulsar 180 DTSi in May 2004.

I had clear specifications of buying a new bike. It should be modern sports bike having good power and style. (So Bullet ruled out) Fuel effeciency should not drop below 40 km/litre.

There are two bikes in the market even today which meet these requirements:

1) Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi

2) Hero Honda Karizma

Hero Honda Karizma being a good bike, dosen't really justify the amount they are charging for it (Rs 76000, on road in Pune) vs. Pulsar 180 DTSi (Rs 61000, on road in Pune).

I have driven Pulsar 180 DTSi for close to 9 months and 10000 kms. It has given me goooood power with excellent fuel efficiency (50-52 KM/litre, in Pune traffic).

As far as power goes, it develops 16 BHP compared to 17 BHP of Karizama. The only plus point of Karzima is that it has higher cc (223cc ) engine. BUt Pulsar 180 DTSi even matches it in top speed and accelaration too (if not more, almost neck to neck, with Karizma having an upper hand). But definitely this slightly upper hand is not worth Rs. 15000 extra...

Now Bajaj are also giving alloy wheels as standard as in Karizma.

Karzima has a few other gizmos, like digital meters etc, but still it dosent justify Rs 15000 extra in its cost.

One bad thing about Pulsar 180 is that every tom dick harry now owns a Pulsar 150 and there is no difference in owning a Pulsar 180 except the stickers. So there is no ego massage as when you own a Karizma. You are NOTICED when you drive a Karizma, if that is worth paying Rs 15000 extra, then that is the bike you should go for. But if you make a decent comparsion, Karizma makes not much sense over Pulsar 180 DTSi.

Maintainence costs are nil except, regular servicing that is mentioned in the owners manual.

Pulsar 180 DTSi ........Definitely worth your money compared to Karizma.......
