I first visited 96 K with a friend. My husband and I were planning to move to Pune and, in the meantime, we were briefly there for work. It was at this time that a colleague I'd previously only known via emails took me out for lunch.
She is Maharashtrian and, thus, she knew what to ask for and I really enjoyed myself.
I was very impressed with the ambience of the place and it was wonderful to be able to enjoy the outdoor seating as we chatted and tucked into the various dishes. The indoor decor is also superbly elegant.
Some years later, my son joined us in Pune and we took him there.
This time the experience was still royal but I found the staff a little too unaccomodating. Somehow we were not given a choice and the waiters and Maitre D' was not helpful in understanding our needs and pointing out suitable dishes. So we had some kind of many course meal and, as my husband and I have small appetites, we could not do much justice.
All in all, I hope that they train their waiters and Maitre D' better so that diners can come away smiling: the good food and beautiful ambience surely call for it.
Given the traditional name and spread, it would be best teamed with traditional Indian hospitality.
Alas, such was not my experience that time.
