I have seen some negative reviews for 47 Ronin.
I have seen this movie around 2-3 times and found it to be interesting, except for the fake creatures created in the movie.
Storyline
The storyline is quite interesting. Here is a half-japanese guy played by Keanu who has been raised and trained by these mythical creatures living off in a ghost-infected jungle. He eventually runs from them and starts living with a samurai clan.
They then raise him, but with a look of contempt on him because he's is a'half-breed'.
He grows serving the clan but eventually falls in love with the daughter of the clan's leader.
The leader of a stronger clan is the villain, who under the auspices of the Shogun of the land asks for the hand of the daughter. In the ensuing competition, Keanu's master is killed by the villain.
The shogun is apparently a moron and unjust and forces Keanu's clan to not avow vengeance for the incidence while also asking them to give away their leader's daughter. This is a stupid part of the storyline.
Eventually, the band breaks up and keanu ends up being a slave fighter who has lost his head.
The commander of the clan's forces eventually gathers up all members to take revenge. The so-called 47 warriors require weapons to avenge the villain.
So, Keanu takes the commander to his old mythical/magical master who tests his will before giving away the best katana swords.
The 47 warriors succeed in infiltrating into the villain's palace. But the final war between the villain's magical colleuage and keanu looks really stupid. Both turn into dragons and eventually keanu kills her.
Overall Impression:
The movie is for kids, teens and fighting buffs. There's not much depth into it. But if you love the samurai culture, the spirit of revenge and the legacy of katana, and Keanu for who he is, then you'll find this movie entertaining because it touches on your natural instinct.
Its a worth watch if you feel you are also a warrior:) You can watch it if you want good amoutn of sword-fighting action.
