Pit falls of ARR

First of all I am a great fan of A.R.Rahman. Still I admire his innovations in

music that he delivers in each and every album. But in this sinful world?Nobody is perfect?. Even though one tries to be perfect the circumstances and situations pushes one to make mistakes. A.R.Rahman also has given some bad songs in his career.

It is again a very easy topic to write on as there are very less numbers to point out. Even the songs that I am listing here will be felt as good songs when

delivered by music directors like Anumalik, Nadeem shravan, Himesh, Harris jayaraj etc., but unfortunately expectation on ARR is so high that when he makes an ordinary song it is disappointing and we classify it as ARR?s worst song.

But before that I would like to list something that I don?t like in ARR's Music

1) He is the one who made many North Indian singers to sing in Tamil. Except a

few most of them simply spoil the language. Even though the music for the song is their voice is always distracting. It even spoils the name and fame of some great singers like Udit narayanan, Adnan sami, Sukhwinder singh and many more in south. There are many great singers here itself why should he go for such complications. He himself knows that crystal clear pronunciation of words and lyrics are equally important to a song but I don't know what forces him to do so. But the other case use of Tamil singers in Hindi doesn?t have much problem.

2)Everyone knows that he is a master in using electronic beats, sounds, computer loops and synthesizers to its best at right places in songs. But in some songs there is unnecessary over dosage of such electronic sounds which makes it noisy and unbearable sometimes.

3) Less use of live instrumental orchestrations in songs and BG scores for movies which gives more life and soul to the song than using western pad beats. This skill lacks in him and it is badly exposed in CBSO when he made a mistake and suffered to conduct a live orchestration. Icon of Indian music should give importance and improve his skills in this area also.

4) Unnecessarily using two male / female singers for a same character in a song. For example, ?Ishq bina? song in Taal in which for same Aishwarya rai pallavi is sung by Anuradha sriram and charanam is sung by sujatha. One more example is?Ooh la la la? song in Minsara kanavu(Sapnay) in which for Prabhudeva the pallavi is sung by Unni menon and charanam is sung by Srinivas(name is not mentioned in the credits).

5)As he is busy with international project he makes dubbed version of already scored Tamil songs for new Hindi movies(not remakes) and vice versa. Even though he has broken the barrier between north and south music there is still some unique qualities of south Indian music which north people don?t like and most importantly nativity is a factor that affects the song. And also nowadays people hear his songs in both the languages even if they don't understand the language and so the dubbed version always lacks originality. Many of the great works of ARR in Tamil is not well received in Hindi.

6)Compare to Illayaraja, ARR stays a step below in scoring pathos songs except a very few songs his pathos songs doesn?t emote pathos all the time in us.

And if I list the goodies of ARR then the number of words required is?infinity

Here is the list

1) yaaaro sunlo zara(Rangeela)

In such a high techno album'Rangeela' this song doesn't fit into this album. Even though the tune is bit catchy the choice of instruments and voice is mediocre and that is main drawback of this song. Voice of chitra doesn't suit the mood of the song. The sudden variation with violins in the first and second interlude sounds odd in between the song and it is an attempt to make the mediocre tune and song to sound better.

2) maahiya ve soniya ve(Taal)

This is a song which proves the point 6. This seems to be a pathos song but computer loop of some synthesizer and a chal chal sound plays for the whole track and its becomes monotonous after a point. The voice of sukhwinder and Richa sharma doesn't have any pathos feel in it. This song is excused because of other blockbuster songs in this movie.

3)Osaka muraiya( One 2 ka 4)

This seems to be a peppy number but lacks any innovation in music. Usual beats and sounds fills the whole track, this song stays far behind the abilities of ARR.

4)Are you want to be famous(Bombay dreams)

This is again an English version of a song from One 2 ka 4. I don't know why ARR selected this song for Bombay dreams when there are many other mind blowing songs. This song has a south Indian feel with some strange instrument sounds and sounds bad with English https://lyrics.

5)Lucky Lucky(Rathchakan)

This is a song which features SPB and Nagarjuna. The song is sung by SPB and Sukhwinder singh. The beauty of this song is SPB sung for Nagarjuna and Sukhwinder singh sung for SPB. Everyone is familiar with SPB and his voice but when we watch some other giving voice that too a north Indian singer for SPB there is no need of any other reason to hate this song. The tune is catchy when it starts but the song loses its pace as it proceeds.

6) Baba songs

This is the worst album ever for a Rajinikanth movie. Even deva would have done a better job. Baba was the highly hyped and expected movie that Tamil cinema industry has ever seen and a biggest flop ever in Rajini's career. One of the major reason said behind this failure is A.R.Rahman's music. All the songs are at its worst. The choice of singers shankar mahadevan, karthik for Rajini is something bad and unexpected. The pathos'Rajiyama' song by Jayachandran is horrible pathos ever by ARR.'Baba' song by Reena bahradwaj and'Maya' are average scores. No fresh tunes, instruments and sounds are used. But all this is because he was asked to compose all the songs within ten days and he was busy with Bombay dreams at that time. All the tunes are composed at London by ARR and sent though net and his assistants recorded it here in Chennai.

7) Parthalae paravasam songs

I expected this album much of the ARR+ K.Balachandar combo whose previous album'Duet' with Saxophone by Kathri goplanath as main instrument was all time classics of ARR. But this album was just opposite to'Duet'. The songs are below average and even I forgot all the songs. The instrumental'Love check' is also not up to ARR's caliber. There is nothing new in the tune and composition of melodies'anbe sugama' and'neethan en desiya geetham'.'Moonrezhuthu' song is okay. But on the whole this album deserves to be in this list.

8) Parasuram songs

*9) Pudhiya mannargal songs

10)Udhaya songs*

One phrase to describe about songs of 8, 9 and 10 'Worst at its best'

Enjoy the songs of?Aytha Ezuthu / Yuva? and his next album?New? is

releasing this Friday.

Long live ARR
