There are more love songs than anything else. If songs could make you does something we'd all love one another.
Frank Zappa
I cannot say whether the directors of Tamil films are innovative in their approach or style. But then, they are surely innovative in one thing: cooking up new reasons to claim that their story is a “very different” love story… “Kangalal Kaithu Sei” is supposed to a “very different” love story. The music for this film is by A R Rahman..Are the songs good? Let us c…
1 . Aaa Tamizhamma
Singer (s) : Mathangi ,Blaaze and Rehana
You can find this song situation in almost every Tamil film ..a group of girls explaining to others through a song that they are no longer restricted by customs and traditions .ARR experiments a lot with this song. There is a recitation of Tamil letters in the background which gels with the song very well. If we carefully listen to the background music, one can notice the tune of “Senthamizh Nadenum Pothinile” (Bharathiyar),a famous Tamil song played . The theme of this song seems very much similar to “Mercury Pookal” from Rakshagan . The lyrics are ok ..The problem was that I really couldn’t understand what they were singing …It is drowned by the music and recitation. I wish ARR had focused more on clarity rather than style in this song. And it is very odd that the lyrics in a song with a recitation of Tamil letters and the tune of “Senthamizh Nadenum Pothinile” has been horribly pronounced....But then, one can’t blame just ARR. Many of the Tamil film songs have poor pronunciations…
- Ennuyir Thozhiye
Singer(s) : Chinmayee and Unnimenon
A very melodious song beautifully rendered by Unnimenon.Check out the humming(by Chinmaye) in the first interlude. It is really amazing.Chinmayee sounds very much like Nithyasree when she starts off …It is a typical love song, no doubt, but the lyrics stand out … The hero asks the heroine about what really attracted him towards her. In fact, he doesn’t know the real reason…He is not able to explain it in scientific or spiritual terms.. I liked these lines particularly :
Male: kannil vizhunthavale nenjai thulaikuthadi karvam
enathu sitham udaithavale saranadaikiren sarvam
Female : Moochu mutta kavithaigal kudithuvittu
Enthan Seviyil Sinungukirai
Male : Rendu ithal mattum konda athisaya poo
Nee ennamo silupukirai
It roughly means this : the hero says that her ego has totally crushed his ego and has made him surrender everything to her (he says this poetically) ..His lover is not ready to believe it and comments that he is just blabbering and is influenced because of reading too many poems…The hero then wonders why she is not ready to accept it …Probably he thinks that it is her ego that is preventing her from accepting it…But then, he is so much enamored by her that he is not ready to apply his logic in this situation and is ready to accept his defeat.…
- Anarkali
Singer(s) : Karthik ,Chitra Sivaraman
It starts out like a qawwali ..Karthik has done a very good job in this song…There is nothing great about the tune or orchestration…Rahman plays it safe. The lyrics disappoint …It clearly shows that it has been written in a hurry… With ARR as the music director and Bharathiraja as the director, I expected more quality in terms of https://lyrics.. This is the thousandth song where the hero proclaims that his heroine is comparable to the sky and earth according to him ..One can clearly understand the mentality of the lyricist.. Given that the first word is “Anarkali” ,find words XXX and YYY such that XXX and YYY rhyme with Anarkali..It doesn’t matter if XXX and YYY don’t make sense to us at all!
- Azhagiya Cindrella
Singer (s) : Hariharan
This song has a very melodious tune …and the background music for this song is such that it doesn’t distract us from the tune. Needless to say, Hariharan has done a great job …He does sound monotonous a bit. But then, his rendition is great. The lyrics are good .. It is a slow song.. The lyrics suggest to us that the hero is singing this song after he happens to meet the heroine for the first time.
5 . Theekuriviyil
Singer(s) : Mukesh ,Harini and Johnny
The song starts in villupattu(story told with a bow used as a resonator) style with a very odd male voice singing “ etho ma etho mathiri pole enna vazhi illaiya …kanavule… kadhule “ .The “…”s indicate that I was not able to understand what he was singing even after listening to it 20 times.. The rest of the song was very good though …Harini excels in this song. Mukesh sounds very much like Jayachandran (“Oru Deivam Thandha” – Kannathil Muthamittal) in some places. This is a fast song …The lyrics are very good for this song ..This time, the heroine is enamored with the hero and calls him a magician ..Check out how Harini ends this song. Amazing!!!
Overall a very good album ..A must buy for ARR fans !
