Zanjeer, meaning ''Chain'', was a trend setting movie in the early 70's. It established the Bib B as the Angry Young Man.
The Plot:
Young boy sees his parents getting murdered. The murderer has a chain / bracelet with a horse attached. Boy has nightmares about horses.
Fast forward 20 years
Boy becomes police inspector. Has a lot of pent up anger within himself. Gets very emotional with criminals. Takes law into own hands and fights the goons. Befriends a local ''dada'' and converts him into a law abiding person. Silent love with a ''knife sharpener''. Locates the person who killed his parents. The rest, you have to see...
The Cast:
Amitabh Bachchan: Turning point in his career. Established himself as the angry young man. Excellent performance.
Jaya Bhaduri: Not much of scope for acting. Supported AB, both on and off the screen. On a personal note, AB and JB got married after this movie.
Pran: His character was well developed - how the conversion from a baddie to a goodie takes place.
Ajit: Another superb bad guy performance. Ajit - whose real name is Wajid Khan, never really got his due recognition in Bollywood. His dialogues and dialog delivery style are unmatched. His dialogues are documented on the internet as ''Ajit ke phatte''. ''Jab kootta pagal hota hai, usse goli maar do'' (When a dog becomes mad, shoot it)
Direction by Prakash Mehra.
Very tight script - nary a dull moment while viewing.
Music by Kalyanji Anandji.
Four songs. A cabaret by Bindu, a sad song on Jaya, a street song depicting the silent love between AB and JB and Pran's famous song ''Yaari hain, imaan mera, yaar meri zindagi''
Dialogues by Salim-Javed.
Powerful dialogues and well delivered by AB,Ajit and Pran.
All in all - a good movie to watch for its action and dialogues.
