UsaNet is only one of few email providers who were once competitors of Hotmail. At first, when I came to US, I signed up with USA.NET. I used their service for about 3 months but soon, I forgot my password. In order to retive it, you have to provide them with a lot of information, which is the primary reason I chose to leave USA.NET and move on to Hotmail. This meant sacrificing the fast speed they provided but I had no other way out. Reccently, they have signed up with all these new companies and provide you with junnk mails, which ONCE in a WHILE, have some good offers awaiting in your mail. Still they are very good and probably in my list of best email providers. So choose USA.NET if you want a simple email account with no advanced features and if you do want an email account with advanced features, go with Hotmail... too many features!
