Alcohol, Drugs, Food, Gambling, even Sex, all addictions.
Enter the era of the Internet. Ah, a new addiction! You can't get fat. You can't become hospitalized from the effects like drugs or alcohol. And errr, ummmmmm, well sex.
But the internet is still causing major problems! The internet is now one of the leading factors in divorces in the United States! I kid you not! Tune into one of those sleezy talk shows one day, or tune into divorce court on TV and you'll see.
'My wife / husband spends all her / his waking hours hooked up to the internet.'
There is no time for the kids or family. The grass on the lawn goes unmowed. The paint is peeling. The plumbing is backed up. But, the internet up and running.
Your rent gets paid late so you can make sure your electric bill is paid and your internet service provider is paid on time.
Your monitor and keyboard is cleaner than your house.
Oops, you forgot to cook dinner / lunch / breakfast.
The kids were late for school again.
Geez, you even forgot your dentist appointment.
What started out as'The information Highway', has turned into the'Road from Hell' for a lot of people.
People are doing their grocery shopping online, they're buying their clothing online and paying their bills online. I even know some people who have bought a new car and a house online.
Some people are even'having sex' online now too.
The internet is a wonderful tool. Just look at what we are doing here on Mouth Shut, for example. Giving our opinions on products and services, so others can make a decission. That is something useful.
Let's not make up sleezy screen names and enter chatrooms and talk to strangers about nonsense and tell lies.
Just think, in a separate wing of the'addiction' clinic we'll soon be seeing, Alcohol addiction, room 101.Drug addiction, room 202.Internet addiction, room 301-302-303-304.
Granted, the internet does bring the world together. I'd never'know' any of you fine people without the internet, but, give it a break, celebrate life, don't waste life glued to your monitor.
(My opinion may not be your opinion, that's why it's called an opinion!)
