The Very Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber - Andrew Lloyd Webber Reviews

HAUNTING MELODIES
Jan 27, 2003 01:01 AM2211 Views

MouthShut is a Consumer Web Site and we should try to buy items that other Members write about. I little while ago I read a review that ''cpearl'' wrote about a record Album that she liked. I went and bought the Album and this is my review on it.

I love the Music that Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote and I just bought the Album called THE VERY BEST OF ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER. Sir Webber Company, (The Really Useful Group Ltd.), Produced this Album. Polydor Record Label release it in October of 1991.

This Album shows you some of the wonderful Music he wrote. There are eighteen original soundtracks from his best song.

MY REVIEW:

  1. Memory is sung by Elaine Page:

The song of a person considered redundant but hopes for a new day to bring her new life.

  1. The Music Of The Night is sung by Michael Crawford:

He is singing of the beauty of night and the magic of the life that stirs when the sun sets.

  1. Take That Look Off Your Face is sung by Marti Webb:

This is a song about a Woman responding to an accusation of her lover's infidelity.

  1. Any Dream Will Do sung by Jason Donovan:

This is song for Children to follow their dreams.

  1. Don’t Cry For Me Argentina is sung by Sarah Brightman:

This song is about Evita's return to Argentina. She tells ''her People'' about her weaknesses. This is her love song to them and her/their Country.

  1. Love Changes Everything is sung by Michael Ball:

This song is about how love changes, the way we look and feel about people and all the things around us.

  1. I Don’t Know How To Love Him is sung by Sarah Brightman:

This is a song about ''first love''. She doesn’t know how to tell him or how to handle these new emotions.

  1. The Perfect Year is sung by Dina Carroll:

This is a song about a new Year. Will it be wonderful, will the one she loves be with her and her dreams that this will be the best Year ever.

  1. The Phantom Of The Opera is a duel with Sarah Brightman and Steve Harley singing the song:

This song is about a Diva, (of the Opera), who is haunted by the voice of the Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom knows he has power over her and uses it to influence her singing.

  1. Oh What A Circus is sung by David Essex:

This is not sung but is a narrative on Eva Peron. It is about what happens, (the Streets are filled with so many People it's ''like a Circus''), after she dies. I feel it is an Obituary after she dies. This is the only song I don't like on this Album.

  1. Tell Me On A Sunday is sung by Marti Webb:

I found this song was haunting because it is about a Person who is waiting to be ''jilted'' by their lover.

  1. Close Every Door is sung by Phillip Schofield:

This is a very slow song. It is about a Man who is about to died by being tortured.

  1. With One Look is sung by Barbra Streisand:

This Lady knows she has a special power to do anything thing she wants with ''only one look''.

  1. All I Ask Of You is another duet that Sarah Brightman and Cliff Richard sing:

This is a song about two lovers telling each other what they want from the other one.

  1. Sunset Boulevard is sung by Michael Ball:

This song is about the People who live on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It's about who will either make it, (in the Movies), or lose what they have.

  1. As If We Never Said Goodbye is sung by Glenn Close:

This song is also from the Musical ''Sunset Boulevard''. This aging Movie Star was estrange from her loved one and once they get together it is like they were never apart.

  1. Next Time You Fall In Love is a duet that is sung by Reva Rice and Greg Ellis:

This song is about two People who were once in love. They try to make sure that the other one does not fall in love with someone else and they will ''find'' their way back to each other.

  1. Friends For Life, (Amigos Para Siempre), is a duet sung by Sarah Brightman and Jose Carreras:

This song is about two Friends telling each other that they will always be Friend through their life.

MY REVIEW:

I am sure you all have heard of all of these Singers and how wonderful their voices are. Other than one song there was not one song that wasn't exceptional.

I love Sarah Brightman, (who sings the most songs on this Album), voice and this is what makes this Album so special. She is both an Opera singer and a Musical Theatre singer.

My favourite songs on this Album are ''With One Look'',''Don’t Cry For Me Argentina'', ''The Phantom Of The Opera'' and ''Memory''.

Music for the Soul
Jan 20, 2003 11:58 AM3546 Views

Musical associations begin from the womb. My mothers love for music has been passed on to her progeny and it remains ingrained in our DNA! It is said that music has the power to calm the heart of a beast. The same hold true for humankind. Music has the capability to affect our senses whether melancholic or exultant.

Such is the power of the music of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Knighted in 1992, this British composer has written several stage musicals which have claimed the badge of popularity thus far; to name the more acclaimed, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar. For his musical achievements, he has received many awards; Golden Globe, Tonys and Grammys to name a few. Sir Webbers association with good music is renowned the world over.

  1. Amigos Para Siempre (Friends For Life) – José Carreras & Sarah Brightman

Two friends proclaiming their lifelong devotion to each other.

These artistes need no introduction. They are exemplary in their vocal prowess and their interminable talent. Since Sarah Brightman is the most featured in this album, let me tell you a few things about her. As the now ex-wife of the talented Webber, Sarahs career surged ahead in leaps and bounds. With a voice that can shatter glass, Sarah Brightman is a very talented opera singer with an impressive theatrical background.

My personal favorite

Memory Why? Listen to the song. It talks of a lonely person with only memories to sustain her. She waits and hopes that one day she will be free in a metaphorical sense. She was a beautiful person, much loved by all, but in time, it vanished.

The voice of Elaine Page lifts your spirit and transports you into the complex timbres of her voice. Another favorite is The Phantom Of The Opera where the vocal forte of Sarah Brightman is at its paramount. It tells of a very talented singer who is haunted by the legendary phantom of the opera and is a strong influence in her singing.

Compiled by Andrew Lloyd Webbers own company, The Really Useful Group Ltd., this album is a worthwhile addition to any music lovers CD collection. It picks out the very best of Sir Andrews music and brings it all on one CD. The unequivocal songs will take one to another dimension where the existent world is surpassed by the surreal world of music.
