I watched this movie on Saturday night in 3D. The multiplex was hell, showing so many advertisements in starting and in interval, but movie glued me well. "Priest" is a movie directed by Scott Stewart (who directed Legion earlier), and starred by Paul Bettany (Silas of Da Vinci Code and Angel of Legion), Maggie Q, Cam Gigandet and Karl Urban.
Plot tells about a long war between humans and vampires, when vampires always took over humans, then the church picked some person and made them the ultimate warrior to fight vampires, known as priests. But then they finished the long war, and now every vampire is inside a reservation facility. But then many unknown creatures attacked an outpost where lived a family, Owen (Stephen Moyer), Shannon (Madchen Amick) and Lucy (Lily Collins). As a result, Shannon dies, and Lucy been kidnapped, and hence a sheriff named Hicks (Cam Gigandet) of outer villages contact a priest (Paul Bettany). Shannon was priest's girlfriend and Lucy is his daughter, and Owen is his brother, so he have to go out of Church-maintained dome-city, against the wish of the Church and Monsignor Orelas (Christopher Plummer), as it come to know that Vampires are back. Church send another 4 priest to bring Paul back, since he has broken his vows with church, which is led by Priest's mate Priestess (Maggie Q). But soon these 3 - priest, priestess, and Hicks went on the mission to find Lucy, and to free her from vampire-loaded train, leading to a vampire-loaded cave mountain, and headed by an earlier priest-cum-turned into human vampire, and Paul's friend Black Hat (Karl Urban).
Now, the background score was good (Christopher Young), and cinematography also (Don Burgess), alongwith blackish picturisation and good special effects. Wonderful stunt and fighting sequences, which involves facing and killing many vampires alone by the Priest, and fighting atop a fast-moving train with the villian Black Hat (Yes, this movie's climax is similar to Dhoom 2's starting, train and surroundings looks familiar). Here the vampires looks like a different creature altogether, like the aliens of AVP pattern, and their hide is protected by another wolf-kinda-creature, which was earlier seen in Lord of the rings on which Mordor's army ride. But action can be improved more, plus the 3D effect. The problem with the 3D is that, Hollywood guys made every movie 3D, so they made normal 3D flicks, unlike Indian cinema, which made 3D movies just for the sake of 3D. Although, the starting animation-at-credits are looking good in 3D. Plot was not much, based on a Korean comic Priest by Min-Woo Hyung, since there are many vampire movies made till date. Movie was just a 1.5 hrs long (Big Cinemas tried everything to ruin the experience, making total time to 2 hrs by showing many adds, but I and other stuck to the seats). Some scenes are quite intense, but 1-2 directional loopholes are there. Worth mentioning scenes are -
Initial fight between priest and Vampires
Vampire Attacks on the family
Priest going against the church to find Lucy in the wastelands
Their finding of vampires' hideout, and facing the guard
Fighting atop the moving train, and colliding of it with a motorcycle loaded with bombs
Screenplay (Cory Goodman) did the movie good, alongwith tight editing (Lisa Zeno Churgin). This movie can be watched once for a good timepass, 3D or no 3D. My take 3/5.
