Today I would like share my review on ESSAR Projects company. This company undertakes mega construction projects in India as well as abroad. I was employee of this company. I was working as Site In Charge at ESSAR OIL REFINARY site at Vadinar.Jamnagar.

During my tennure I have found this company having nice working environment, employee-friendly, well-organised and well equiped.

Really I had enjoyed working with them.

Essar group which came into prominence after having made their millions with ONGC in the second reich of Indira Gandhi, started mindless diversification and ended up biting more than they can chew. The steel plant at Hazira is excellent, capital cost is high. Recession has further added to the woes, liquidity is a problem and they are burdened with heavy debts.

The management style as anyone who has worked in Lala companies will tell you, is marwarish style, highly concentrated in the family hands, and a few trusted cronies.

Despite all the so-called modernisation and computerisation etc, the style of management remains traditional. Unless they professionalise, it will be in problems.

Essar oil, the venture into petro sector is too late now, better withdraw. Aimless competition with Reliance doesn't help.

When you dream then only one can make it into reality. Will it be true in case of Ruia's ?

I feel ESSAR put their wide feet before stablizing in one field. The best example for this is Their Dream Refinery Project in Gujarat. While trying to establish in shipping, steel and offshore construction they entered in a big way into the Refinery Project. The subsequent cosequencies are known to the world. Still Ruia's trying to salvage the project.

However now ESSAR is well established in shipping and steel. The management can fully concentrate in the Refinery project and come out from the ashes like a PHONIX.
