"Excuse me! Can you please check my classroom also!". A voice just caught the attention of Adil who was trying to swim across the sea of new joinere to check the notice board just at the entrance of the college .
" I am getting late. I am Sorry", afraid of losing any more time Adil didn't bothered to even give a look at her and hurried towards classroom.
All Junior college classes were in annexure building on the other side of the cafeteria. The cafeteria gave Adil inferiority complex. He was just like any other studious boy with just average looks or may be, he considered himself so. Just out of school and yet to hit the gym, he had an athletic body and an innocent face.
Adil was now standing at the classroom door. He felt disappointed to see all front rows occupied. He was not alone. Many were wandering to find a place . Rummaging through the rows, he finally found an empty bench at the backside. The wall behind him had few cracks and the plaster was coming out. Adil was drenched in sweat. The classroom had fans but were almost useless.
There was a closed window behind with a broken glass. Adil opened it and placed the hatches. The tormenting sun set the sky on fire. He could see the cafeteria from the window. Some nerds, few studs and many sizzling girls made the picture just perfect.
The cafeteria was small yet most happening place in the college. Auditorium formed the boundary on one side while parking area surrounded the other end. Entrance gate formed the front view. At the stair case of the Auditorium's entrance few enthusiasts practised guitar notes. A girl just stood up from there waving hands to draw attention of some friends on the other side of cafeteria. Adil was watching all this when suddenly his eyes landed on a girl standing in the middle of the crowd. While searching something in her purse she accidentally dropped her cell phone. Adil felt like jumping through the window and picking it up for her. Her cute little smile made Adil skip beats . Her hairs left loosed, interrupted the view of her face. She was neither dark nor fair. Her waist was curvy enough to put Indian earthen pots to shame. She bent to pick her handkerchief up. Adil found himself at the perfect vantage point. A delinquent smile broke on miscreant's face. He watched her keenly until her friend arrived and then both disappeared.
Adil sighed and turned back. Lecturer had still not arrived. Adil went to the washroom and returned only to be surprised to see the same girl sitting at his place. With short hesitating steps he accosted "Excuse me. I was sitting here". Before the girl could justify the teacher stepped on to the stage and asked Adil to settle down.
The girl picked her purse and kept it on her lap making some place. Half happy and half reluctant, with mixed feelings Adil sat. Even a slight touch of her gave him goose bumps. Teacher's words went over Adil's head. Her scent tempted him to take a glimpse of her face. But she caught him trying that and their eyes came in contact. A moment and then an unknown fear struck Adil's heart. He swirled his head the other way. He tried to act innocent but she knew what that nervousness was all about.
Wind gushed through the window and blew her hair on over Adil's face. It tingled his nose making him sneeze. Both looked at each other, apologized at the same time and then smiled.
At the end of the lecture the girl stood up and left. Adil gathered some courage and followed her till the cafeteria. She disappeared in the crowd. Adil started strolling towards home.
She crossed Adil's mind several times. To divert his mind, he took the help of music but songs aggravated the situation. There was a weekend standing now in between him and her sight.
He reached home. A woman opened the door.
Adil hugged her and said " Hey Mom! Was sup? I am going in for a nap. Do not disturb me. I am tired."
She called him," Listen Beta! At least have your food !"
"Later Mom!" Saying Adil was just about to close the door of his room when he called," Hey Mom!". His mother looked surprisingly at him. "Thanks! It's a nice college. Love You!"
She wondered what could have happened in the college that changed his son's attitude but at the end felt happy.
