The Honest Liars
It was shocking to read a new research study which says that 60% of People can't go 10 minutes without lying. Lying is probably one of the most common wrong acts that most of the people carry out. Most people will agree that lying is always wrong, except when there's a good reason for it. Lying is a part of human nature & it may be accepted by the world, but it is not acceptable to God.
In today’s time we can’t have a few minutes conversation without lying at least once. People lie to everyone. We have seen & heard kids lying to their parents, parents tell lie to their children & even some parents unknowingly encourage their children to indulge in white lies for their own convenience, husband & wife lying each other, friends lying with friends, people looking for date online lie in their profile. Lying in getting marriage & job is quite common.
Last month my company was hiring new employees. During interview session I asked a very formal question to the job seekers, why do you like to join our company?
I was surprised to receive diplomatic answers, One candidate said I always wanted to work for your company, another said I am happy with my current job, but I am looking for new opportunities, a smart job seeker said I have all the skills needed for the job & some other candidates said they have adequate experience & so on.
I don’t expect the job seekers to be like King Satya Harishchandra, the symbol of truth who was renowned for upholding truth under any circumstances but paid a huge price for telling the truth. Sometimes white lies are thought to be harmless & they're also often used in professional situations to cover up insecurities or inadequacy. I can also understand that when candidates are asked why they would want to join a certain company they tend to over-exaggerate their level of interest and desire, even if they have spent only few minutes reading about the company.
When looking to hire new employees we can get smart employees but it’s very rare to get employees with honesty, integrity, and the desire to make a difference and grow with the company. Hiring and managing employees are important steps in company's growth. If employees are carefully selected the problems of employee discipline will be negligible.
I asked another simple question, would you lie for the company?
Most of the candidates said yes & a few others replied it depends upon the situation. At least here they were honest. Finally our company got a new team of honest liars.
Personally I strongly believe that when we are telling the truth we are close to God. Truth is something that cannot be modified. Telling the truth is always a big decision to make for everyone at any moment. Sometime truth could help us out of trouble, while the other time the truth will put us in trouble but truth will always prevail.
There’s a saying, If you tell the truth, it becomes a part of your past. If you lie, it becomes a part of your future.
