Stop Crying and Act!

I switched on my prepaid number after almost 2 months and found that my balance was almost zero. They had managed to deduct money from a prepaid number that was switched off for almost 2 months! What an Idea Sirji!

This website is flooding with negative reviews of telecom operators: bad network, unfair deductions, high costs and so on. We have all the time in the world to write lengthy reviews about bad experiences, keep cribbing about the mobile operators on facebook and twitter and do 10,432 other useless things that are in no way going to hurt the service providers. But we don’t have time to do one thing that’s going to hit them hard: port out! Yes, mobile number portability (MNP) is THE way to tell your operator that it sucks! Think about it: if there is a mass migration of customers in, say Mumbai circle, from company A to company B/C/D; it will reflect in the performance report of the pig managing Mumbai circle at company A. And may force company A to do something about it. But no; people keep flooding social media with complaints that have no (or very little) impact on company A.

I have just completed the MNP process and can tell you that it’s not at all complicated. Just send PORT your 10 digit mobile number to 1900; you get a unique porting code within 2 minutes on your existing number as an SMS. Go to the official outlet of the cellular company you want to switch to. Carry a photograph and address proof. Fill up a simple (it’s so simple that even a nursery kid can fill it) form and get a new MNP SIM. That’s it. Within 7 days, your existing SIM card is deactivated and you can insert your new MNP SIM to enjoy the new network with your old number.

All it takes is about 30 minutes of visit to the new service provider outlet. So stop crying like 2-year old babies with broken toys; and act!

P.S. After I sent the port-out SMS, I got 2 calls from my existing service provider asking me what was wrong and offering me special plans. My answer: It’s too late punk!
